Uplink's news server only has news related to computer exploits, main plot and secret missions. Can't there be a completely independent news server, with all kinds of news? Since most of the media involves repetition anyway, it shouldn't be too hard to add totally new types of articles, relating to many, many more topics.
And then make it hackable, with the ability to modify news items, and you might just have yourself a new type of mission
