    Password breaker:

The password breaker is a little unrealistic. I understand the concept - brute force, but how would any brute-force password breaker know the length of the password before it even began?

It would be more realistic (and, visually, more interesting) if you started the password breaker with one letter - a. Then it cycles up the alphabet until it finds the first letter of the password. Then the second 'a' appears, and does the same. The box will need to stretch to accomodate longer passwords, obviously.

Also, can't you make stronger passwords? Passwords currently consist of 26 characters - the lowercase alphabet. Adding the uppercase alphabet, numbers, symbols and others (basically, the entire QWERTY keyboard) would allow you 90 characters.

    DDos:

I remember Onlink included something about DDos attacks in an earlier version, but that disappeared. Why not introduce a "disable target machine" mission where you need to flood it off the internet?

Include 2 new pieces of software: DDos Controller, and DDos Trojan. Simple concept:

Hack into any machine that has a console and file system
Copy the trojan across and run it - it hides itself when it's working

The IP Address of the trojan-infected machine shows up in the controller when it's opened. To launch a DDos, simply enter the target IP into the controller and hit 'Execute' (or whatever). The controller then orders every trojan on the list to ping the target out of existence.

Higher version trojans allow you more "flood power" per machine. And the more powerful the machine, the more flood power it has anyway.

    Just a thought :)

    Backdoors:

The "View Records" option on any ISM is pretty useless - it gives you the username and password of the admin account, which you just cracked anyway. Why not include the option to create new accounts, as part of a mission?
    Quote:
Mission: Create a backdoor in a target system.
Objective: Hack into <target> and create a new user account with the following settings:

    Username: jdaniels
    Password: robbins
    Level: 1

Erase any records of your actions, and reply to this email when you are complete.

Capital letters are available already(in original Uplink as well), though it rarely appears.

i'm sure that they only appear when you pick them for your own password :) that, or on a special machine.

A note on passwords: Dunno about every single symbol on the keyboard, but I believe forward slashes and hyphens are occasionally used in passwords, but not very often (I've only ever seen one forward slash and maybe two hyphens, and they were bank account passwords).
