    OS Upgrades

Possibly viruses cant infect certain OS's. The new OS versions can have different GUI or the same GUI but add hot keys and other useful things.Maybe the OS can affect the efficiency of the CPU's or uses less ram (virtual memory can be added to bring down the load on the ram down by maybe 30%). Possibly the new processors can only run on newer OS. Maybe some HUD upgrades will only work with a newer version of the OS.

So guys what do you think?

EDIT: read third post for - harddrives ,Motherboards, Bios , Ram, PSU's

I think this idea was thrown around (and used!) in another mod, possible neott's FBI mod.

You could get an OS from Uplink, Arunmor, or ARC i believe. I assume there were plans for having features specific to each OS, but at the time I played it the only difference was color.

Speaking of FBI mod, I did like some of the software in there.

Extending the idea of different OS's, perhaps also have a BIOS, and allow for dual-booting etc.

<shrugs> I don't think we can just take ideas from FBI mod...

But what i mean by new OS is new version of the Uplink OS maybe memory support,CPU support, maximum CPU support,More Ram support,Faster ram support, Software (that comes with the os) ,Higher version software support (version 5/up), Gateway support,

Dual boot can be an option
Possibly a new BIOS for different CPU speeds/types. ie- Dual core , triple core , quad core ,etc...
    possibly new CPU technologies
New motherboards that are compatible with different types of ram ie- hyper ram (2x faster ram) , Static ram (3x faster)
    Processor support
Gateway support (gateways come with motherboards but this can be just a mod to add CPU support)
South bridge / north bridge speed / other technologys like hyper transport
    Bios support
New Bios can add features. ie- overclocking
New Power supplys can also be an add to support the faster cpu , motherboards , ram
New hard drives ie- hybrid (flash / harddrive), full flash drive, Faster harddrives etc...

So would that be time-locked in the game? I can't see Uplink just forcing you to do paid upgrades to the OS which they gave you. Maybe either have releases of new OS versions based on rank in game, or perhaps time.

I would rather have full-hardware-support operating systems (with individual patches for processor support like we have now), but each OS has different unique features rather than being different versions of the same system.

Then we can have like new bios for support for overclocking and new CPU's
New OS - versions, patches for compatibility with bios (thus compatible with CPU)
