Post subject:  possible 'multiplayer' option

This isn't really a true multiplayer option, but rather an extension to the IRC client available. I was thinking of intergrating a special chat system in the game (but doen't affect the story). This could be used to get help from other players or make friends, like an IM system, only in-game. Cost-wise, the standard IRC protocols would work, but some kind ofserver as well as a 'buddy list' system would be needed. There would be no security issues, since the chat only works through the IRC port, and administrators can monitor the usage of the chat by using bots, censors, etc.

I understand that doing this will be a lot of work, but it can be great for newer players as well as a place to chat when you get bored during a mission.

An MSN controller, Maybe trillian controller, this could be a great idea, but the titel is bad, NO MULTIPLAYER TILL MIAH OR ANOHTER DEV SAYS SO (warning to you all). chat systems aren't multiplayer.

So you guys are aiming for a Onlink IM?
That can be used in-game it sounds great but.... hold on

1. Uplink has an IRC server.
What was the last time you visited or how long have you been visiting it?

Taking that in credit, is it an Coolness Factor Feature or an Feature we dearly need, and will Intergrate into the Gameplay level?

i think, because youve to get the mod from this site its not far to the forum or the chat. So why do you need to make "frinds" while playing onlink? you can keep in tuch with the frinds you make here via the intigrated irc client. (thats more, than most offline games have)

true, but you can't chat AND play at the same time, since you have to go to a seperate screen.

And No,

This is not a multiplayer, hence the '' around the word 'multiplayer' ;)

My idea for this is to go further than a simple IRC interface. Sure, the IRC protocool should be used, but have something similar to AIM or YIM, although not as advanced with all the bells and whistles (like voice and video chat, as these are not supported using IRC). It could be a stand-alone program, or built-in the game itself as a seperate 'program'.

In this case we could intigrate a real working email client as suggested before
