im not sure what "Harmful software" you have included exept the backdoor thing witch is like a trojan but what about lets say keystroke miners and worms and such like design something that would spread between systems or on a particular system so that you could steal passwords without having to brute force them or to corrupt a security system and make holes in it or delete it or whatever
then you could lets say design a virus that owuld spread by lets say attacking all the ip on the log then from there attack the ip of their logs and so on and so forth this will ofcourse be cought fast but it will still give you acces to a bunch of systems for a while or just to cuase havoc for fun and perhaps profit if you manage to mount a virus on a bank server that would steal all the money on that system and spread it across difrent acounts witch then spread them to ofther acount and delete the logs.... this will focourse require you to put the software on ur own bank or just delete the logs urself when you get there
or you could mount it on internic and tell it to try and infect the whole list

also it would be realy cool if you could start your own compenies lets say make an anti virus program then start attacking ofther compenies with viruses and such and selling the cure at witch point you could hide backdoors in the software

also (i dont know if this has been though of) it would be interesting to be able to use the stock market more effectivley as a hacker such as lets say hacking a news server and planting a false statment that a certin compeny is loosing money to make the stock drop and then when it picks back up becuse of the misunderstanding you could make a profit or have the compenies categorized by what they make and lets say buy stock from a compeniy then attack a rival compeny
or even better steal all the info of a compeny buy their stock then return their data ^^


and ofcourse it wouldent be a new poster if i didnt say something about multiplayer yes yes i know there isnt any and there probebly isnt any planned but i dont think its as complicatesd as it made to look (or perhaps im looking at it from an invalid angle?) but seince you introduced all these new tools and security devices to protect urself anf attack others you made it pratically good for online
i see it like this you wont be able to just connect to a difrent client you would log in to a central server like most mmo games and each player will be granted a fake ip and when you lets say buy new software you wouldnt have an actual file on ur pc that would be created but ur profile ont he server will be aupdated with the item and if its "deleted" it will be removed from there so all this buying and deleting of software wouldent actually happen it would just simulate thus not putting anyone in anymore danger then any other mmo does making items apear and disapear happens in evry game its not realy a risk
and if i didnt quit computer class nad studied coding more i would have been able to atleast try bo help but unfortunatly i did quit(im an idiot i know...) and i forgot all i learned becuse it was a few years ago

but i realy think its posible with effort and with donations we could keep servers(i know im not donating but my salary is curently about 80$ a month(im in the army and no im not in the US) so i cant afford anything at all
and ofcourse there would be alot of ppeople but as someone sugjested we could have like hubs so the map wouldent get to crowded.......ok i lost my line of thought so i hope you impliment some of the things i sugjested and good luck

Once again i find you "bringing down the thread" with such posts burningmace "If i were admin i would have you banned"

We all get a little pissed off when someone uses bad punctuation and/or spelling but try to look past it and think for a second that the user may have difficulty at the present time with english.

Even if the person is foreign, I'm sure the rules for punctuation are pretty much the same in all languages.

I really wish you wouldn't take our argument into other threads.

That quite enough out of you. All Burningmace said to begin with was that the intial post was extremely difficult to read - which it is (I read it nevertheless).

And I have yet to see a so-called "If i were admin i would have you banned" post from Burningmace.

Im realy sorry my spelling sucks and im not even sure what punctuation meens
I am in fact forigen and i kinda tought myself english....and i never actually bother to read what i wrote so i dont know how badly i wrote it
also i got kinda excited with ideas and stuff and started typing frantically
im a rather incoherent person i have a sort of hive mind and i cant focus on one thing so i babel especialy when im excited
so forgive me for that first post and i will try to type slower... though i still have lots of spelling mistakes becuase i dont know how to spell quite abit of the words i use

I like the ideas.

Though I think there should be virusses wich the player can make himself. Let's say you can make a virus wich has functions like:

- Downloading files from ISMs
- Downloading files from Players gateway
- Cause harm to system files (Perhaps making the gateway unuseable)
- Cause harm to user files
- A Binder*
- The abillity to log voices/files/password etc.
- Act like an IRC botnet**
- And all the stuff I forgot

*Basicly, you can bind several files into 1 .exe file, once executed the files will be extracted/hidden/executed etc. (The user can set the parameters himself)

**You can access IRC networks (not real ones). On these networks (wich the user can define when making this evil program) the bots receive commands from their owner like: ddos.attack <ip> / clear.logs / rd <dir> etc.

I was recently playing a few other hacking sims (I know, I'm a traitor :twisted:) and found one to have an ingenous method of in-game virus creation.

The idea was that you could get a freelance coder to write your virus for you to a custom spec, specified by you in a program. You choose the "Virus Core" which gives the virus its main function (they had quite a few, including one that overclocked the target machine to a high level, melting the CPU and another that would corrupt the OS along with a lot of others). Every Virus Core cost different amounts depeding on how destructive they were. On top of that, you could choose extra features to the virus, such as making it polymorphic or making it hide in the boot sector, making it harder to detect or remove. Each extra feature costs money. You give the virus a name and click purchase, the fee is deducted from your account and you recieve the virus executable in an email a few in-game weeks later.

It'd be cool to see something like this in Onlink.

That would be nice indeed. You could then choose what you want for a virus, but... we'd have to get as many different virusses as possible. We won't come far with only 2 or 3

That's the idea.

There were about 15 virus cores on the game that I got the idea from.

I'll list the effects of cores from what I can remember:

* Overclocks everything so it melts. (Destroys everything on the gateway)
* Deletes core system files (data is recovered but system goes offline for a while)
* Corrupts the boot sector (hard to recover data)
* Deletes the file allocation table (partition)
* Deletes everything (but data is recoverable)
* Encrypts files with random keys, destroying the data (totally irriversable data loss)
* Creates security holes (in Onlink it could disable Monitor and Proxy etc)
* Slows down access to the terminal, thus increasing the trace time
* Kills the BIOS... I suppose it should be called something else in Onlink
* Deletes passwords from user accounts
* Transfers funds into a specified account (this was used on ATM servers in the game, could be adapted to banks in Onlink)
* Alters the monitor resolution and refresh rate to a very high setting, destroying the monitor. (Passive trace only can take place)
* Locks out the user (same effect as the monitor destroyer, but for less time... so costs less money?)
* Anti-virus killer (destroys anti-virus databases and definition files, causing temporary increased vunerability to virus attacks)


I've always liked my idea for a virus core though, a virus that binds itself to all running processes, forcing the system to be rebooted, thus loosing unsaved data. This could be useful in the Revelation vs Faith kind of missions, further delaying the progress of the programs.
