I would like to see an option (maybe in the themes menu) to switch back to the world map that was on Uplink. I love your version so much better, and my only problem is that new world map. With the white outlines on the country it is hard to see the names of the links I am clicking. I found a way around this by turning the links orange, but it still hurts my eyes to look at.

I had the same problem and I decided to solve the issue myself, I extracted the picture of the map and made it darker. Here are screenshots of the maps in action: 35% darker, 45% darker

To install them:
Create a folder named "graphics" in your Onlink folder (without the quotation marks), and put one of the worldmaplarge_defcon.tif file in this folder.

March 19th: I added a second map, 45% darker
March 20th: I uploaded the maps somewhere else as Imageshack converted the .tiff to .png, making the maps unusable.

I cannot seem to get your new map to show up as my world map.

I renamed your photo to "worldmaplarge_defcon.tif"

You said to put it into my "Onlink" folder, but my folder is called Uplink, but it is a different folder than the original Uplink.

My "Uplink" folder is here

C:\Program Files\Uplink

I created a graphics folder here and put the new photo in that, but it will not show up.

EDIT:
It might be the fact that when I rename your photo (which is a .png file) to "worldmaplarge_defcon.tif", it is still a .png file

I converted it into a .tif file, but now when I open up my world map, I get 3 error messages about unknown fields encountered.

If only photo conversion was so simple. Certain tiff files won't work properly with Onlink. I suggest you ask Miah what program it is he uses to save files as .tiff.

My bad, it appears that not only Imageshack rename the files but it changed or converted the pictures from .tiff to .png too. I zipped both maps and uploaded the zip file somewhere more reliable. Here they are:
