First of all, the game takes place in 2010, so who knows how hacking will change in 5 years? Second, as many have said before, "realistic" hacking is hard, sometimes boring, and takes a lot of command memorization. Ever wonder what made people start buying Windows over DOS? Maybe it was the fact that they didn't have to read so much incomprehensible text. Uplink did so well because it was fun and easy to pick up, and Onlink should retain that.

It has in fact already been done. In a sense. In Dark Signs (http://www.darksigns.com/index2.php) you play with a console interface, using D-script (small programming script made for the game) to command the interface and create programs. Although that was entertaining, it was kind of tiresome having to keep it all in your head while playing a passtime game, just for fun. If you like that sort of thing, do try it out!
