Loosely if at all. My statement is more that the game core is much better for adding new things. What I'm really looking forward to is the modability it will ultimately allow, though. |

Is there any possibility of a direct integration of the Onlink core via a mod, allowing hacking jobs to actually be executed? I understand that this would be very inefficient, but it would be a way for players who wish to hold onto Onlink after it's completely dropped to be able to do so. Possibly maintained by a member of the community with a dev disk (i would nominate Tycho, but it seems like he would be otherwise involved with Kite) |

Actually direct integration would be very difficult because of Onlink code source. But since everyone will be able to mod Kite (and share the mods), we might put it as a side project. On the other hand, Kite is not simply the next subversion... |

We wouldn't want it as part of the main project. Onlink is simply too obfuscated. |

Well, they're starting Kite from scratch, rather than from the terrible codebase that is Uplink: Hacker Elite. I'll be honest, i've been teaching myself how to code by deobfuscating Uplink... But it gives me a headache after looking at that code for half an hour. THey have a chance to make Kite FAR surpass the awesomeness that onlink achieved.

Two more weeks and more progress: [Eclipse] - Lot of code cleaning. - Better handling of 2D and 3D shapes by the renderer. - Implemented lighting. - Fixed vsync and FPS counter. - Implemented a landscape structure. - Started working on pathfinding. [Kite] - Door placement on walls completed. - Started working on city generation and office buildings. I should start working on the 2D side of Kite soon (just need to wrap up procedural generation and pathfinding). |

Any chance you'll open it up to testers soon? |

You realize the games will be completely different, right?

There's not much to test yet but hopefully it will be testable in a few monthsQuote: So I'm curious, once you have a basic demo out have u considered crowdfunding to take development up a notch?
Actually, yes we are seriously considering Kickstarter and are working on a demo (I already some stretch goals like multiplayer).Quote: You realize the games will be completely different, right?
Not completely. It will still be the heavy hacking game that you know. On top of it you will have a way to interact with the world. For some missions you will be free to choose how to get what you need (e.g. act physically to avoid the ACS and lifting servers).

Good to hear we get a bit more freedom. One thing I would like to see is more explanation on things, the new ACS and lifting servers and features and what not. It's not really explained in-game and it's hard to look these things up considering Onlink is rather low-profile so it took a lot of screwing around to figure these things out. |

I've played a lot Uplink, discovered Onlink, enjoyed it a lot, and then started lurking this forum for several years, reading what will be the future of Onlink, the first bit of information about Kite, the long wait between the first announcement by Miah and the recent stream of information from Mc2m and Miah....So yeah, thanks, I think I have understood what Kite will looks like. I'm a huge Kickstarter fan. I haven't seen much of hacking game in the Games project section, so with a properly made project page, I'm sure you would be able to secure funding for Kite.

Due to college and other crazy stuff happening lately, I haven't had the time to login in a while. Damn, it's nice to see so much progress. Way to go, guys, I'll be waiting for the first demo |
