Just reporting a bug/feature here

I got some "Elite agent required for destruction of computer system" missions, and it turns out the target were LANs, the mission description said nothing about that and I didn't have any LAN software at that time.
I did manage to steal some money to get the tools, and hacked into the LAN, and the main server.
I deleted everything in the usr folder and the sys folder, and promptly shutdown the system. Fast forward, the news server only reports a data loss, no total loss systems.
So I connected to the LAN and the sys folder was still there with all its files. I deleted sys again and shut the network down. Then I checked again and I could still connect to the LAN, as if sys was never deleted. There were no ACS or Backup systems there.
I used LAN Spike to get the admin off my back, the admin did find me while I was deleting sys, but he couldn't disconnect me. I shut it down again, but the LAN was still there.
This time I tried deleting sys without using LAN Spike, and while I resetted the connection after having deleted sys (there were only 2 systems between the hub and main server), sys was there, again. The admin kicks me out right before I can complete the shutdown process as well.
Have I missed something here or is it just bugged?

Thanks, I'll check it out.

By the way, how much gigaquads was the size of Revelation?
Because when I got the e-mail from ARC with Revelation attached, I didn't get it automatically saved in my databanks, probably because I only had 3 free Gq left, and there was no way of obtaining it again, and I couldn't progress any further in the storyline.
This is because data is not downloaded automatically anymore. There is an icon in the mail subject to download the attachment. also, revelation is 3Gq.

May I have a tiny suggestion? Something in Uplink [and Onlink] has been bugging me much more than it should, but, why does the player's gateway always get's the 127.0.0.1, or localhost IP? It makes no sense, if you left your logs somewhere, the server would have to be utterly stupid to save it as a localhost IP... Maybe change it so that the player's IP would be generated randomly? It would add a little bit more of reality into the game, and you'd have to remember it :P , or am I the only one, to whom it looks weird?
This is something that everyone is aware of but changing this would probably lead to months of bugs so it's best to leave it at that.

That type of mission doesn't reveal it works on a LAN but the difficulty is a hint. We may or may not change that.

The fact that LANs doesn't shutdown is a bug. I've patched it in the latest build (same link as before)

I'd like to report a bug. The 'Generate a university degree' Mission does not seem to work for me, iv'e tried everything, for 10 minutes straight i tried inputting things to make the customer satisfied, but whatever i did didn't work, and i knew in what format to write it (graduate qualifications :
X, Class Y) But they just won't give me my money.

Found a bug, can't make a bugzilla account though. :( I upgraded to "The UNITY High-Security platform", and now anytime I go to a menu that contains any sort of computer upgrades (Software, Hardware, Gateway, Aux Gateway) at either Uplink Internal or Uplink Labs, causes Onlink to freeze and crash.

First, the mission difficulty ramps up way too fast, so the player doesn't have nearly enough credits for the required tools once those missions become available.
Firstly, yes, mission difficulty in Onlink is getting bigger and bigger faster, than in Uplink, but, isn't it good after all? It makes the player think: Do I really need to buy this software now? I should buy this instead. And as most players who play Onlink should know Uplink already, it's not a problem they wouldn't know what every piece of software is for. And even if they haven't played Uplink first, the tutorial will give you enough to get started. As of the later game equipment, I had to figure out how to use it even in Uplink itself. It's no fun if I knew what everything is for without having to think about it first.

The only point I agree is that I sometimes also get a low-level mission to hack into server, that is end-game with all the fancy stuff like b.monitor, encryption, sentry etc... But then I can just skip it, who cares for one mission in ten?

Having a "Bypass All (Possible)" button on the Connection Analyser would make things faster and less tedious.
This button would be incredibly awesome and useful in Uplink, but as Onlink offers you to create a custom keymaps to start a certain programs from your databank, it takes just about 1/4 of the time it took in Uplink, so no need for that :P
Quote:
the only way not getting yourself caught after a transfer, even after deleting the logs in the statement from the sending and receiving end (and InterNIC), is to use expensive bypassers.
Nope, this is a wrong statement, you CAN get away from banks quite easily actualy, it still has the same mechanique as in Uplink, a little hint: There are not only a connection logs ;)
Quote:
Having some kind of toggle to hide all the names of the servers on the world map would be great as well
You have this option, server names won't show up, if you don't have them enabled in the server list. They will still show as a white squares, but won't show their names anymore. And you can always turn on the highlight of the servers you want to connect to.

And the VSEC 3.0 system is just plain hell.
It is, but that's just what I love about Onlink! Yes, it is a pain in the back, but, it makes you think, and get actualy frustrated a bit. Thanks to Onlink, I learned to solve lights-out by intuition, and even though VSEC still frustrates me, at least Onlink is not a simple "Click here, do that, done" game, that makes you think :P
i never could run from a bank highjacking, in uplink, are you sure?

Are you sure you bypassed/disabled any possible security systems?
It could be a Sentry, you should check the Academic Database with an IP Probe.

I was alredy in the database, every time i commkited a change it commited it, what i'm talking about is that the employers won't accept ANY changes i make, and i tried several formats, wrote it in every box, double check it commited the changes, looked it up, and yet, nothing, they won't accept anything. Also at that point i alredy had the HUD connection analysis, and iv'e bypassed all their defenses.

I've just encountered what I assume is a bug on the latest version, accepted a "Copy a large and secure corporate database" and upon hacking into the LAN central sever found the files to be stolen encrypted at level 15!

I don't know if I did something I'm not supposed to, but when I have to break a VSEC 3.0 lock, it seals directly after one input, essentially making me unable to do the Ferrous Moon missions.
Any help?

VSEC v3.0 is special, you can solve it, but you'll have to figure that out yourself, just be sure, you can get past it

Are you telling me there is another security measure preventing me from inputting anything in the VSEC 3.0 puzzle? It's not the issue that it's a hard puzzle, but that it locks down directly after one click.

Yes, that security messure is that you can click only the off-state ligts, if you click any of the active ones, the whole system will lock itself

Ohh, I thought it worked the other way around. At least it used to, I think.
