@sentinel: I'm not Japanese at all, dude. Also, Italian > Japanese. But that's probably because I've eaten a lot more Japanese food since I moved to WA (there's this really good restaurant within daily driving distance, so my roommates and I go there often; their chirashizushi is so good even if it's like, $20 a bowl), so Italian is a welcome break from the norm.

Someone who is obsessed with Japan/Japanese Culture/Anime, etc. and attempts to act as if they were Japanese, even though they're far from it. They use Japanese words but usually end up pronouncing them wrong and sounding like total assholes. You can find alot of these faggots clogging up the forums of Gaia Online, hanging out in the international aisle of the supermarket, or crowding the manga section of your local bookstore. Synonym of wapanese.
Bold emphasis mine.

I will concede the fact that I enjoy Japanese otaku culture and its associated media (mostly anime and music; I don't really like manga [or print comics in general] because I tend to focus on words rather than art). Couldn't give that much a shit about the country though (or any other country in particular). Historical Japanese culture is just about as interesting to me as Ancient Greek culture (in that I only really find the mythology intriguing and little else). And obviously I don't attempt to act Japanese or try to speak the language (see my previous post about not seeing the point in speaking a language if you can't speak it properly; now extend that to attempting to emulate an ethnicity or nationality) in any serious manner; I know the contextual meaning of a few Japanese words and use them as memes (just as much as I use any other memetic phrase).

The hilarity is getting palpable in here.

I don't see what point you're trying to make here, then.

Memes only work if other people get them. Yours just stabbed my eyes.

For reference, I have (and I just checked this) as many books written primarily in Arabic as I have books about Japanese culture. So before you get all "more diverse than thou", try to not assume anything. I am however learning Japanese with intention of moving there at some point, but now I'm playing that by ear. First though? I plan to visit Russia. Trans-siberian railroad. Fuck yea.

Also, yes, Greek mythos is fascinating. Try sometime to map the family tree. I have a book that does this and comes with a foldout that spans like 24x36 inches. Shit be insane.

Oh, and if you're talking about:
Quote:
Shit, I might actually be more Japanese than you, for that matter.
This wasn't me saying I'm more attuned than you. This is me saying that ironically I probably have more Japanese in my bloodline than you do.

TL;DR: You Raph, you roose. :3

Jesus christ the quote CSS needs work.

It'll be cool... when they actually integrate it into their armed forces. Still waiting to see the per-unit cost.

That I don't attempt to be Japanese, only that I find Japanese media entertaining (moreso than most other media at least, save for vidjagaems).

I never said how I use them? I only say that I use memetic Japanese phrases as much as any other memetic phrase - and since I know what a meme is, the implication is that I use them around other people who get them (i.e., my roommates).

That's good for you. I don't have any books about any cultures, Japanese or otherwise, other than the few books I have about games and game designs, as they tend to have contain games that are from other cultures.

And where, pray tell, was I trying to do that? If anything, I'm try to prove that I am, in fact, less culturally diverse than you.

Well then, there y'go.

And if you read my reply, you'd know that I acknowledge that point. (As far as I know, my entire family is Vietnamese, which means if we go far back enough, I'm Chinese.)

It's less "Vietnam bumfucked us" and it's more "COMMIES bumfucked US". I use the Communist angle more than I use the Vietnam angle (which is funny, because I don't much care for the Communist regime in Vietnam).

Either way, that was the only war the USA ever lost, wasn't it? Nice overall score IMO :classy:

To be fair, we lost because we weren't _allowed_ to win. It was a stupid thing for us to get involved in, but whatever.
