Post subject:  Who plays EVE Online?

Haven't played in a long, long time, and I just signed up for a new trial account to get started again (I like starting fresh when I haven't touched a game in awhile).

So, does anyone else here play EVE? Maybe we can meet up in game or something.

I do, but I'm mostly waiting for training. My character's name is "Tytso". Someone else already took "Tycho".

I've got four friends who are playing EVE and they are slowly-but-surely dragging me back into that hellhole. (I used to play, back when I was still a sophomore in HS.)

I just need to wait on some funds for a bit, and then I'll probably end up joining again. /sigh

Alright, cool, I added you. My character's name is "Exclacius." (No period in the name there, as that's just my awesome grammar skills in action)

Look at that, I'm a sophmore in HS too (well, Junior as soon as Wednesday hits).
I guess the main reason I'm playing is because there is some stuff going on in my family that I need to get my mind off of. Restarting my EVE addiction seems like it will work just fine.

To "get [your] mind off of" something you turn to an expensive "addiction" and think "it will work just fine"?
That's...terrible reasoning. Video games are extremely habit forming (addiction is not really the right word to use...some people are addicted, but it's pretty rare) and very easy to use as "escapism."
MMOs in particular: like slot machines, they are psychologically designed to be "addictive" so you will keep pumping money into them, while their façade of social interaction lets you pretend that you're still being a person and ignore your problem.
You're pretty much asking for it.

At least with EVE, if you can grind out ~300 million ISK a month (not as difficult as it sounds), you're paying nothing.

Still figuring out money-making techniques here. :P

Salvaging is pretty profitable, according to a friend of mine (my current roommate, in fact). Especially when you have another friend who constantly runs level 4 missions, too.

(Level 4 missions can also be pretty damn ludicrous - the second friend I mentioned was doing a ~1mil ISK mission that had him killing all of two battleships, each with ~800k ISK bounties. So he made about 2.6mil ISK in a minute of fighting, or thereabouts.)

ETA: And I've also heard that researching can make you stupid sums of money if you're willing to wait for long periods of time (alt characters are also good for such). If you've a large corp/alliance, Titans sell for billions...

Anyone still plays mu online?

Haven't played for the past months, but only because I'm far from home.

As it would happen, if you're using the Queen's English, you should be putting the period outside the quotes in this case.

It only makes sense anyway.

Whatever, tell that to my English teacher, who marks us down for every single itty-bitty thing she doesn't like.

I agree that it does make sense, but it's not the way it's done in proper American English. Periods and commas = always inside the quotes. Anything else = only inside the quote if it's part of the quote (for example if you're quoting a question) otherwise it goes outside.
At this point I would explain how it works in German but I actually have no idea.

Funny, I always put punctuation at the end of a quote outside of the quote unless it was part of the quote.

And, in academic papers, when using MLA style, when quoting another source, you always place the period outside the quote, regardless of whether or not there was a period included This is because you have to cite the quote, "and a citation that looks like this is awkward," (Griffinhart) "Versus a proper citation, like this" (FinalWarrior).

Nope, not for periods and commas. My style manual's in the states so I can't quote it, but the Wikipedia Article is sourced.

Um, in that case you're putting the punctuation outside of the quote because the sentence/clause isn't done yet. The person's name is part of the sentence so putting punctuation before it would be wrong regardless of whether there are quotes involved or not.
