Hey FinalWarrior, you go to DigiPen right? Apparently Tarn Adams, the Dwarf Fortress guy gave a talk there yesterday. Did you get to go? |

Yep, I went. He actually started the talk about half an hour early, and we closed shop at about 9. It was fun, pretty educational. Really went into a lot of how he does worldbuilding (which I, uh, kinda drifted off during the latter bits). That he managed to code something to handle all of that fucking data... insane. -- Griffinhart PS. Oh also, he seemed to like Torchlight, had just recently played Geneforge 5, and asked for recommendations on DAO. |

Well, that's cool. Any sage advice to take away from it? Learn any of his secrets? |

Yeah, don't think that you can just sit down and program for months on end - Tarn said he'd sometimes take long breaks from working on a game to recuperate and think. Also, don't be afraid of failing - a lot of the Bay12 games that Tarn put out weren't "successful" by any means, but he used them as learning experiences. (Be honest - other than DorfFort, what Bay12 games can you name, off the top of your head?) -- Griffinhart |

Uh...how about Liberal Crime Squad‽‽ (worth two interrobangs) That game is almost as good as DF, though granted it's mostly other people working on it now. And of course there's Armok 1. I've actually played most of his old games (granted, only because of DF), though yeah, I can't remember any of them. There was Space Zoo or something...and a game about being a Medic in either WWI or WWII...and something about Hell...and one where you had to stop a kid from looking at porn...I dunno any of the names though, and none of them were that great since they were all just minigames pretty much. |

Actually one of the other guys attending the talk (a student at DP) had also mentioned he was working on/doing something with Liberal Crime Squad. -- Griffinhart |
