Oh tell me about it. Try throwing sleep paralysis and waking dreams into the mix :) Lucid dreams are cool though and waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more awesome than any kind of drug.

I'm so glad I'm not the only "loser" around here. I've always wanted to try lucid dreaming but never could do it lol.

I don't dream (or rather, I don't recall any dreams that I have enough to say that I dream) - I just have ricockulous insomnia.

Although I really hate that state of mind where I'm lying in bed, and really, really sleepy - and aware of how sleepy I am. Because that awareness intrudes upon my actually falling asleep. So then I lay there, on the brink of consciousness and unconsciousness, and no matter what I do, I'm not going to fall asleep, because if I were to fall asleep, I'd be aware that I was asleep, and that'd wake me up - and if I were to try and shift myself, the movement would waken me.

You sure it's insomnia?

I thought I had insomnia. I actually have a form of something called DSPS which is delayed sleep pattern syndrome. Basically my sleeping pattern is not only behind other people's but it cycles.

But I know how you feel and it goddamn sucks.

Whatever the hell it is, the symptoms include not sleeping for several days in a row. Half the time I'll just lie in bed for six hours, get up, take a shower, and go to school. Around the third day of doing this, I'll make it home and just pass out on the bed, if that. (Or at least, that's how it was when I was still in school.)

Hmm, I guess sometimes letting go of control is kinda satisfying.
It's not about control. It's about "I don't care either way". I have no issue with people smoking pot personally, but I don't even care enough to try.

I suspect it would be a lot like WoW was. Going hard for a month or two and then one day realizing it actually sucked and walked away, cold turkey.

As I understand it, that's how my mother stopped smoking cigarettes too.

Marijuana isn't really even "fun," necessarily.
It's just...interesting. It changes the way you perceive the world (which can lead to you thinking that the pattern of bark on a tree is the most complicated and amazing thing you've ever seen, leading to you staring at it for an hour trying to understand it, but I digress).
Although it can be fun sometimes because it makes things seem kind of silly.
I don't really know why you'd want do it all the time, though. But on the other hand, it seems to be something that affects everyone differently. And I guess there are different tiers of being high, a lot of people smoke a ridiculous amount, which is probably very different and maybe that's more fun.
It definitely doesn't seem to be a "loss of control" like alcohol is though, except maybe over your motor functions. The mind's all there still, it's just thinking differently.

Plus the no-hangover fact is nice, especially considering that right now I'm a bit hungover myself and about to go to work...

(Also, my "less than one drink an hour" comment was a joke. True that having less than a drink an hour isn't much when you're talking a short period of time, doing it for 48 hours straight is probably not good because it doesn't give your liver a rest.)

For people that say they "Don't Get Weed" but they get alcohol, Then let me say the government has won. When you are high on weed your brain thinks about everything totally differently, its basically a way of getting an altered perspective, and you don't lose control its not like alcohol. For example it can make a children's show seem profound, a single scene in a movie seem epic, it can bring new understanding to a haiku, it can allow a different look at anything. Unlike alcohol, THC is not toxic, there is no hangover, it can't be overdosed on, it actually has a positive affect on our bodies, its not addicting, and its not dangerous in any kind of recreational dosage. I rarely get high anymore and when I do I bake it into crackers but to place marijuana on a worse pedestal than alcohol is simply foolish.

When I drink, I become even more confident in my abilities, a heightened sense of awareness, everything is more fun, no one is boring etc. The couple of times I smoked weed I went into massive depressive mode and dug up shit that was buried and for good reason.

I don't think the Government should stop people smoking up, but to say that it's straight up better than alcohol is ridiculous.

My two cents: How many people have suffered due to alcohol, and how many people have suffered due to cannabis?

I lost a very good friend of mine in a drunk driving incident. (I refuse to call it an "accident" - it's never an "accident" that someone gets drunk and gets behind the wheel of a car.) I've never lost any friends because of marijuana.

-- Griffinhart

PS. @Switch: Alcohol is the only drug I know of that can kill a person due to withdrawal effects.

I'm not saying it's safe. At all. I'm saying that a blanket statement that alcohol is safer than weed is just simply not correct. Casualties to drink are going to be higher due to the amount of users.

I know one person who's be hospitalised due to weed and two people who have died. One through paranoia and depression caused by it, diagnosed by a doctor, the paranoia caused him not to take his medication and he took his own life. Another person drove under the influence of weed and smashed his car in (Apparently, marijuana is worse to drive under the influence of) and another person also had severe psychological problems because of it, although he's pretty good now.

So wait, I'm confused about the "diagnosed by a doctor" one - was he already mentally ill, and then decided to smoke marijuana, or did he become mentally ill due to smoking marijuana?
