That makes the fact that I see your username as "Hammerzeit" even more fun.

Deutsche "zeit" = Englisch "time" (roughly... I think... maybe?)

In the US, there's this old meme/phenomenon called "Hammertime" from 1989/90 that became immensely popular.

Just... yeah.

So I guess now you know that it's not even heard of in these parts ... Shouldn't be much of a surprise anyways, since "Schland" is quite a boring place to be anyways. "Schland" from "Deutschland" an alternative term for germany, which is often but mostly used by germans, when making fun of the country ;).

I'd hope not since I'm going there in a year.

And don't worry, Europe seems to be a decade or two behind the US' cultural advancements, I'm sure MC Hammer will hit any time now.

where to exactly? Hope not the east, but even if not you most prolly won't like it here anyways. There's a reason why most of the younger people leave the country as soon as they've learned to live on their own. But I guess if you don't stay here for too long you may actually enjoy it for ... like a couple of minutes ... I guess it's obvious I'm not too much of a patriot, aye?

I'm gonna be in Bamberg.
At the very least you guys have better beer than we do, right? That part is true at least?

According to what I've heard ... yeah. But better stay clear from Oettinger Pilsener lol. I don't drink no beer ... so I really can't tell if there's that much of a difference.

Bamberg's western germany so you're good.

Don't go to German for the good beer. They do tend to drink a lot but what they drink is something else.

If you like drinking beer, you really need to visited Belgium. It has got the best beer culture of whole Europe.

Just to name some: La Chouffe, Westmalle, Westvleteren, ... (and so on)

Well, I don't speak French so living in Belgium is sorta out. I at least know enough German that I'd be able to communicate in a totally silent room with people who spoke really slowly. :classy:
But I plan on visiting nearby countries while I'm there so maybe I'll try 'em.
I've heard there's this special type of beer that's only brewed in Bamberg that's supposed to be pretty good though. Rauschbier or Rauchbier or something like that.

You don't seem to know a thing about Belgium.

First thing first. French isn't the main language.
It's one of the 3 main languages. And currently there are more DUTCH speaking then French speaking. The country is split in two, the north is filled with dutch speaking (Flanders) and the south is filled with the French speaking (Wallonia). And the 3th 'main' language spoken is German. Thou that is only like 2% of the whole country.

There you go, a little brief into Belgium

I never said that Belgium was French-speaking only. I knew that it also had Dutch and German. Thanks for assuming I'm an idiot though!
But people do speak French in Belgium, and they don't in Germany (at least, not as a main language), so Germany gets my vote (not like it matters anyway, my school has a program set up with the German university which is why I'm going).

More like: don't want to. It's no mystery that quite a bunch of germans don't like frenchmen for several different reasons ... as all russians I know do ... lol.

You still don't seem to get it. In Belgium the only speak French in the lower part of Belgium. And everything about paperworks and so is done there French (tax and so on). In the north part they use dutch for the language and paperwork. But in the German part (it's a small community on the east part of Belgium) everything is done in German and people tend to talk German there.

And if you would come to the northern part of Belgium. You can just talk English because 80% of the people will understand it there. If you would go to collage or so, it is possible to
follow they course in English. And blah blah blah
