I seriously have absolutely no idea why this isn't working. For some reason no wireless networks show in the Network Manager window nor can I connect by adding networks manually. Both cards should be supported out of the box. (BCM4306 and Cisco 340)

I even tried ndiswrapper on the broadcom, no dice. I have done a reinstall of Ubuntu 8.10, no dice.
There are multiple networks around us I should be able to see as well, and I cannot. This is frustrating, and I've gotten no support from the Ubuntu forums, not one reply.
The Cisco seemed to work back at my house (I'm in Indiana right now) but now neither are working.
I'm connected via ethernet right now. Both cards are detected and installed correctly and everything, in fact, awhile ago I had Ubuntu installed on this very machine and everything worked fine.

    Help?

The BCM4306 should be supported via the b43 driver. Does it show up as loaded in lsmod? And how about mac80211?

Yeah, I thought it was too, I had Ubuntu installed previously awhile back and it worked fine after enabling the proprietary drivers.

Strange. Can you show the output of 'dmesg'?

Looks like the driver loaded fine and even found the firmware and set up an interface (wlan0). From all indications, it should be working fine...

If you are using NetworkManager, it probably won't find wireless networks while you're plugged into ethernet. Are you connected to ethernet?

I rebooted both with ethernet plugged in and without, and nothing worked.

Funny thing, after I arrived home from Indiana, my dad walks in and when I was about to show him the problem, everything magically worked. Odd much?
