But then they have to fix it themselves, vs. sending it off to some industrial complex where Microsoft service folk do the fixing for them. -- Griffinhart |

Don't you think if Linux had a bigger userbase then there would be more services like that for Linux machines?

Absolutely - but does Linux have that kind of userbase right now? Major companies might switch over to Linux if it had a larger userbase and more support, but to get a larger userbase and more support, Linux needs major companies to start using it. See the problem? -- Griffinhart (is grossly oversimplifying things.) |

Yup, have a solution?

He doesn't need to provide a solution, you're the one who's suggesting they use Linux.

I'd wager that hiring someone to maintain their Linux machines (perhaps on a per job basis, if the need for maintenance is less) would be cheaper than buying Windows licenses in bulk. |

If Linux had way better games support, then Linux would be my main and only OS.
Same here. It's just not worth the hassle of installing Ubuntu for me right now, only to have to reboot into Windows for half hour everytime I want to have a quick blast on a game.

My vote goes for Tycho making a Linux build, with Cerberus completely integrated (you can play Cerberus and use the computer for other stuff at the same time), that would be my OS for sure.. who would need other games anyway? |

Things might get confusing... someone might get mixed up and try to hack into Google's LAN. |

Quote: Here's the way I look at it. Most businesses are too stupid to realize the hundreds they would ave on downtime and licensing if they were to switch to Linux.
"Business are too stupid to realise?" <-- For real? I have yet to actually see a stupid business. Procedurally retarded, overly methodical, red tape, yes - but not stupid. You can't be stupid and successful. It just doesn't work. That aside, all the logical status-quo arguments have been made here, so I have nothing much to add. As for Windows 7: I'm already using Vista, and if speed's the only major change between Vista and Win7, chances are I won't upgrade for a while. Unless if there's a serious, time-limited discount for Vista Business users, then I might consider shelling out. |

I really don't like the idea of maintaining a Linux distro. To be perfectly honest, Miah and I did consider it for about 10 seconds before realizing we'd hate ourselves if we did it. |

i've bought a new laptop, it "will come" with Win7 Ultimate - Red Hat (Red Hat/Fedora)/Canonical (Ubuntu)/Novel (SUSE)(/http://www.debian.org/consultants/ / probably others) sell commercial support for linux its might worth noting 1 of my teachers have a second job that has something to do with Red Hat (tho i don't really know what it is :s) |
