Anyone try out the new RC? Notice any performance differences from the Beta? I have yet to test it out yet. Just finished installing Jaunty on my desktop, planning on turning the XP partition into a Windows 7 partition. |

I'm currently using the RC as my primary Windows OS. Seems to work well. |

I'm using Windows 7 as official Beta tester since Beta Build 7000 and now I'm running RC1 Build 7100 (latest official, I could get newer builds, but meh...don't want to). So far it runs way better than Vista or XP for me. I run it in x64 mode, because I have 7 GB of memory. I really hope, that M$ won't fuck it up and keep it how it is now or even improve it |

It's at RC stage, which means the code base is frozen as far as features are concerned. All that's going in between now and release is maintenance (bug fixes and security fixes).

I have discovered Linux a few years ago, started to use SuSE/openSuSE and then I switched to Ubuntu for some time. I do not have it installed anymore, because my old HDD's broke and now I'm just running around with Windows Vista as backup OS and Win7 as my main OS.If Linux had way better games support, then Linux would be my main and only OS. Now, for the home user, market share is the problem. Because of Windows' market share, ATI isn't putting much effort into it's Linux drivers (and the open source drivers are based off of old specifications. So, IMO, once businesses switch, home users will to (as people learn to use it at work) and more software support will be available. |

Or they could just stick with what works and not go through all that effort. Laziness/the status quo prevails. -- Griffinhart |

Who knows how much the average company spends on licensing Windows computers and how much support for those computers cost them?

Yeah, but how many of those operators already know how to use Windows vs. Linux? How much time (and remember, time = money) and effort would it take to take down a system, remove Windows, replace it with Linux, and then make that Linux box do everything that the Windows box did? And remember, these companies have already paid the money to license Windows. They throw out Windows, they're throwing out money. If you're a new company, starting up, then by all means, use Linux. Using Linux and training people to use Linux will probably cut down on costs and time spent on maintenance (unless you're that lucky breed of person that never has a problem with Windows... just with stuff that hates Windows for some illogical reason). But for an already-established, Windows-using company, there's no real advantage to switching over to Linux. Sure, there might be benefits in the long run, but how many companies do you think will last that long? Hell, how many companies do you think think that far ahead in time? -- Griffinhart |

Oh the other hand, how much support will they be able to get when they're running Linux? Most people are computer-retarded, remember, and don't have the time or inclination to try to fix something themselves when it goes wrong. At least with Windows they can call up Microsoft for support or send it in somewhere to get it fixed.
