ASCII doesn't bother me, but there are graphics sets for DF too if that's your taste.

But that game is seriously so much fun once you get into it. I don't even know why. But it's seriously addictive somehow.

The main reason I prefer WinXP systems to Macs is because it seems as though Windows has more vidyamagames than Macs do.
Some day you'll realize there's more to live than games.

...what the hell am I saying?

It should be noted that it's no longer Mac versus Windows. It's Mac OS X versus Windows and Mac versus every-other-computer-vendor. People still seem to attribute the two things to be the same one. Be careful with this.

Don't want Mac OS X because of a lack of games? You can use Windows instead and still have a Mac. The only real argument remaining is down to the hardware or the configuration. Or price. Or personal preference.

Had me worried there for a moment.

Re: Hardware: As a friend of mine once said, "want to get a new monitor for your Mac? Buy a whole new fuckin' computer."

But yeah, personal preference for me is a WinXP system (until they fix Vista).

(Haha, I made a funny!)

I've never used a mac monitor for a mac desktop. :p

Also: They're fixing Vista? I thought their "fix" was going to be Windows 7.

No idea, but until there is a solution to Vista, I'll be on XP.

If you want the shiney mac hardware but still want to use windows you can use the built in bootcamp. It allows you to run certain versions of windows on top of the mac. I am not sure if it uses virtualization, but I assume that it does.

Nope. Bootcamp is actually honest-to-goodness running windows.
There are virtualization programs out there though, and apparently some of them are pretty good.

I believe, according to this page, that Boot camp emulates BIOS at a hardware level, instead of virtualizing at a software level, something like that.

VMWare is pretty great, but it doesn't beat a native system. Rickton is right; Bootcamp isn't virtualization in any way. The only thing does is partition your drive and add backwards compatibility (Mac OS X uses EFI, Windows needs... was it the MBR that was the problem? I really can't remember now...)

Once you get past the bootstrap, it's smooth sailing. Bootcamp also comes with drivers for Windows so that all your hardware works seamlessly. It was a bit dodgy in beta, but it's pretty good now.

MBR + BIOS emulation.

Well you can tell I do not work on Mac's, I figured there would be memory conflicts if both windows xp and mac os x we're both in operation at the same time without any type of virtulization, but I assume the people at apple found a clever way around that.

I should probably stop assuming things. ;)

Boot Camp doesn't run it at the same time. As the name implies, it lets you boot into either Windows or Mac OS X.
