Y'know, running an online game through Obsidian Portal would be pretty cool. My books need to be put to use, anyhow... @Topic: Not sure if I mentioned this before, but I got a Zalman heatsink/fan. Specifically, the CNPS 9700 NT. It is awesome. Everyone should get a Zalman fan (unless they've got something better). It dropped my core temp from around 60 degrees Celsius to the lower 30s. (Previously I had the stock heatsink that came with my core. With both heatsinks I used Arctic Silver thermal grease.) -- Griffinhart |

I nearly bought the Zalman. I instead went for the Noctua, because it is better overall plus can have 2x 120mm fans in push/pull. Only thing is it doesn't look as good.

Case: Antec 300 Motherboard: GA-EX58-UD3R Processor: Intel i7 920 2.66Ghz Graphics card: (2x) ATI Radeon HD 5770CF Hard drive: Samsung Spinpoint F1 500GB Optical drive:LG DVD+/RW DL 22x Memory: Corsair 3x2 GB DDR3 1333MHz Power supply: Corsair 650HX It's a nice setup, although I deeply, deeply, DEEPLY regret buying that crossfire piece of bullshit. I'm getting horrible framerates horribly at pretty much everything. I can always hope ATI will one day release decent drivers for it, but I'm afraid Fermi will be released before that. Might as well get one of those by then. |

It wasn't over a year old, it was two weeks shy, so it's good. If it had been two weeks later, though, ohhhh boy.

How is the Phenom, by the way? I've not heard much on it (though I've only heard good things about Intel's Core i7).@Mursu: Hmm, I've been thinking of setting up a rig with a pair of 5870s. A friend of mine bought a single 5870 (at my recommendation) and it just screams along beautifully. But is Crossfire that terribly supported? -- Griffinhart |

Basically, you can run pretty much anything at the highest possible settings with a single 5870, and since the drivers simply suck, the little improvement you would get over a single 5870 is not really worth it.-- Griffinhart If you have nothing against: A) Flushing every now and then by using alt-tab and running at about 20fps for a few minutes before getting decent frame rates B) Experiencing completely random and inexplicable crashes while running stuff at full screen (unconfirmed, possibly happens when windowed as well, I have yet to experience that though) C) Having to un/reinstall your drivers several times in weird ways in order to update them D) Paying ~350€ for very little actual performance improvement ...then go ahead and buy a CF. I'll just tag along with this piece of shit and wait for the Fermi. I will NEVER. EVER. touch ATI again. Sidenote: It's not just the CF, as far as I know all ATI's new cards have issues, thanks to the crappy drivers, but CF has even more of them. |
