So did anybody do anything they regretted over the Holiday's? I ask only because I hooked up with a freshman on New Year's, it was 3 Am and we were the only ones still awake in a condo, yeah stuff happens. As a sophomore its not really a big deal but she was kind of ugly, and I can't rip on two of my friends that had pulled a similar stunt.

So basically, did anyone else do something they look back and frown upon?

Two weeks before break me 'n my girlfriend broke up. (Mutually.)

Over break I got the flu, an ear infection, crapped water, and the situation with my ex got even worse (we're no longer speaking, mostly my choice. I'm avoiding her).

And I ate three dozen Ferror Rocher chocolates.

Well, my dad got a Blu-Ray. He'll regret it the rest of his life when HD-DVD becomes the standard.

Why do you think it'll become the standard? Blu-Ray has a higher capacity, more studio companies using the format (only New Line and Universal exclusively use HD-DVD), and more members from major corporations on their board and contributor list.

Seems like Blu-Ray is winning in everything so far. Or am I missing something?

Yeh, neither one will win. At some time a better something pops up and we will use that. Also, downloading is becoming more popular than actually buying it on a disk.

Sadly, Blu-Ray is most likely going to win. Personally, I blame the porn industry.

I've heard the porn industry doesn't like High Def at all because it exposes flaws on the models not normally seen with our former low-res viewing technology.

Odd. I heard (well, read) that the porn industry was favoring Blu-Ray, and that's why Blu-Ray is winning the format war (because apparently, the porn industry is a great indicator of the video media industry in general).

That's why they put gauss over the camera in soap operas. Hard to think anything (even the porn industry) could learn from soap operas.

I thought porn was not allowed to be distributed on blu-ray?

Why would it be? Unless Sony is like "NO PORN NO WAY."
Which wouldn't make any sense because it's a Japanese company.

I have never used an hd dvd or blu ray disc (although we did get an HD DVD player for Christmas).

All the normal DVD's I've played in my 3-4yr old HP laptop monitor (1280x800 res, widescreen; haven't tried any in my new 1680x1050 widescreen yet :P) have all seemed brilliant to me. Partially because this meant I was getting sorta 720 HD resolution, in my new monitor they would probably get almost 1080 resolution. Even if the disc didn't transmit the data in HD.
What I mean is, I don't really care, as long as I'm playing it on my computer, it looks great, now the DVD player in the TiVo is a different story, SD and its really dark...

And as for the actually on-topic discussion, no, I have not done anything regrettable over the break... :)

Tycho, why will HD-DVD become the standard? BluRay is higher capacity, is no longer any more expensive, has shipped more units thanks to it being shoe horned into the PS3, is exactly the same physical form factor (a big reason BetaMax lost to VHS, was because VHS had a more pleasing form factor even though BetaMax was better quality.)
