Hello!

Sorry I took so long, I was meeting with state legislators...

One: My current computer is dead. dead. dead. If the company cannot repair it within 2 weeks of being sent in three times (that is to say now, 9 days from time of posting), I will be getting instead a new computer.

Two: Nothing is lost. I saw things going to hell before they did, so all of the source is safe. Yay!

Three: Onlink is very much not self-sustaining. As a result, I have given myself a lot of work to do now for a better futrue later; dedicated servers, a registered company name (maybe), etc.

Four: Part of this is working with the state government. Iam now running for President of my campus, and campaigning for a seat at the state association. As you might expect, it will be slow close to elections (expect a bit of slowdown in the last week of April, then it should pick up again...)

Five: Onlink is not a complete recode, but it's damn close. 70% of all files, includeing those in /contrib, have been edited.

Six: I have little problem with other modders showing off their work, so long as common decentcy is exhibited, as ConstableBrew has shown.

Seven: you are welcome to help on the team, but first I need a minor interview to make sure that people argee with me. Email me some contact details: internal@onlink-mod.net

Eight: I have taken a brief look at your site, as much as the 3 more minutes I have before class allows, and so far, I am impressed with what I see so far. However, if possible, do you have a technical demo/screenshot for me to see? You piqued my curiosity...

I don't have any demos to show yet as it really is only a design document at this point. Once I have finished touching on all the game elements I'll start on a code architecture document which will describe the technical details behind it all. As I write the architecture document I will also be writing code. Enough of the design is given at this point that some basic work on the code architecture can be begun, which I won't bother with until I'm comfortable with the amount of design work done. I am open to any motivated volunteer should they want to try their hand at it.

BTW good luck with the polotical stuff. My brother was a polisci major and was involved in the mock UN. (Got second place the year he went... a dissapointment for his team as they had a record of winning. Wasn't his fault really, he had everyone eating out of his hand. We're not sure why his team lost...)

I just want to draw your guy's attention to the x81 assembler section. Give it a good read and let me know what you think.

I think your ideas are awesome, and the site is nicely written as well.

ConstableBrew, Can you PM me a way to contact you with IM, like msn or an IRC channel. Cuz I've got permission to start External Projects that involve coding, and I want to make some External Project of your ideas. So PM me if you like this, remember you can still keep all credits.

Additional information? Well... One thing I haven't really made clear is that I will probably be converting all the uplink code into c# and asp.net. I think that this game is minimalist enough in its interface that a fully web based interface would be possible without sacraficing look and feel / immersion.

I just moved to Los Angeles and haven't set up my home pc yet (have to buy a new desk...) That's going to be about a week or two from now. After that I can resume my updates on the documentation.

If you are interested you can also contact me via constablebrew (atters) gmail (dotters) com or by google chat.

What is there in the Uplink interface that could not be faithfully reproduced on the web using DHTML, JavaScript, Java applets, and Flash?

Nothing, but it'd lag like hell.
Java is sloooow, I used to program in it, but gave up due to its slooooooowness.
JavaScript is horrible.
Flash - that's OK. Write the whole thing in Flash! :)

Otherwise, page switches and stuff are gonna suck.

I agree with BurningMace, Java is very slow ( Look at runescape '2' )

Flash can be slow too though, although I think it'd be easier to do in flash...

But yeah, it's teh lag.
Also, I have a thing about the capitalisation of the 'm' in my name. Don't do it.

I gotta say that, even though I think flash'd be better, I know of quite a few flash MO's that are pretty laggy and/or put a heavy load on your system ( not to mention the server when crouded ).

(( Xgenstudios has made a flash Stick fighting MO, thats the one I'm referring to, might you want to compare it with Runescape ))

Yes, but a flash stick fighter requires quick collision, input and physics calculations.
