If I have yet to "beat' Uplink (can you even beat it? I somehow doubt it), should I go through Uplink before installing Onlink? Or should I install Onlink immediately to have the full Onlink experience first-hand?

you can just start playing onlink, because the basics are explained in the toturial (just like uplink), but the more advanced systems you need to find out yourself (like in uplink). i recommend reading icep*ck's ultimate uplink guide first (http://modlink.net/guides.php)

Not such a newbie at Uplink myself, as I started playing it the minute I heard of its release (which doesn't seem to long ago, really). Loved the game, and sticked with it long after the release of the 1.3 patch, but after switching to a new pc, I forgot about the game, and the community that seems to this point have remained alive. Although the faces have changed a bit.

Anyway, I am new to Onlink, I tried it out, and I love what I'm seeing, but I would definitely welcome an extensive FAQ/Guide to explain some of the user implications of the various modifications.

I heared of darwinia and got it landed to me by a frind. But its so slow on my pc, so i decided to try uplink and liked it imidialy.
My frind now plays darwinia and gave me his olf uplink.
Its not hard to start out since ther is a tutorial.

im new to onlink 2
but when i downloaded the installer and installed it to the uplink dir,
it doesnt run onlink (from desktop shortcut or exe in uplink dir.)....soooo how do i start onlink?

did you try to run onlink.exe ??? (i guess yes, but you never know)

yeh i fixed it i got the reg (v1?) then i had v nightly 14 then i got 15
15 worked but its asking me for a code card? (WTF IS A CODE CARD?!?) umm on the main site only the alternate dwnload had nightly 15 if thats a problem tho

the code card is a special card that checks if you have the game. like a serial. it was sayd to be uncrackable, but the card has allready been posted on various crack sites. i know all the codes by now, so i dont need one anymore.

and how can you play onlink without having uplink :S

thanks to trygames i start playing this game. but i never buy games from a different server. i always buy them at my local gamestore or the official selling place

nope it is from introversion, they added a download i guess, well anyway cds here rofl
they allow 3 dwnloads after u order so u can download the installer 3 times
but ill just hav that as a bck incase i lose the cd

i could have sworn that introversion sends a cd.......

The code card comes with the cd itself (its like the serial), if you lose it, simply google it or something and you may find one that has been posted on a warez site (ironic, hacking a game that is about hacking...).

About the error. Make sure you installed the 1.31 patch from the site, and it is the full version of uplink (the demo won't work), then install Onlink in the same directory as uplink (you will still be able to play uplink, although i dont see why you would ). Hopefully this should solve your problem!
