I've just been playing Act of War: Direct Action and wondered what everyone's favourite RTS game was.

I personally choose C&C Generals: Zero Hour. I play as the Toxin General. I like ZH because there's your standard 3 factions with 3 subfactions each on top of that, adding variety. Also, there's lots of variety with units and buildings. It's also quite highly moddable.

What do you guys (and girls) think?

StarCraft: Brood War gets my vote.

plus, zero hour has gobs and gobs of mods that extend the game to insane new heights.

Seriously sexy game. Shame it runs in hilarously low resolutions and 256 colours. If Blizzard remade it with everything the same but with better graphics, it'd be the best RTS out there.


I agree about CnCGZH too, it's been so heavily extended by 3rd parties that there's never a lack of stuff to do.

The original C&C was ok, but the rest have just been clones.

Duh, I do like SCBW (Just finished the campaign second time :/), but still the #1 vote goes for Warcraft III: Frozen Throne

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War is pretty good too, but Warcraft is simply the best.

I'm seriously into my RTS games. Here's my list of owned RTS games:

Starcraft (with Broodwar)
C&C Generals (with Zero Hour)
C&C Red Alert
Ground Control II
Act of War - Direct Action
Darwinia (if you can class that as an RTS)
Stronghold: Crusader
Stronghold 2

And that's about it.

I don't think that Darwinia, by definition, is strictly an RTS game, but it has some of the main features to it.

I agree SC is good, but whats coming soon is very... interesting... yes?

Heh, but yeah... my laptop does really suck.

This PC however is teh pwn! Nah, it sucks too really. But it'll probably run any game you throw at it on the lowest graphics.
