So, last week I got back into Onlink. Haven't played for several years. I downloaded and installed the Onlink Legacy Nightly 15 and the ModPack and started playing.

After getting used to the game again, I was browsing the hardware upgrades (Uplink Internal Services->Hardware->Hardware) and I saw, listed alongside the Infinity Chip and several other items, an upgrade called "Gateway Wi-fi." The description is something to the effect of "Links the gateway to a wi-fi node and allows the user to avoid being actively traced." Sounds great, so I saved up the 75,000c, bought it, waited for it to be installed, and took a simple mission to test it out. Unfortunately, the monitor still initiated a trace. I looked around my HUD to see if there was some way of "activating" the Gateway Wi-fi to no avail, and I can't for the life of me see what, if anything, the "Gateway Wi-fi" actually DID/DOES for me.

Anyone have any clues? Is this just a dead feature that was never finished or am I missing something?

    Hey Red,

Haha I wish I could help you! I'm not sure if I ever used the 1.5 version but in Onlink beta I believe I saved up and still got caught with it

(Maybe a bit of a gravedig, but i'm just putting information out there, so i'll take the punishment.)

I think the truth is in the wording. It says "actively being traced"... So it probably only stops active traces...

If I remember correctly, it stops your game ending when your machine is log/passive traced by things like the banks.

That DOES make sense but, as far as I remember, it was bugged in Uplink (didn't do the job properly). I dunno if they fixed it for Onlink, or if I'm mistaken altogether

I don't recall it ever being in Uplink... I know there isn't any code for it in the 1.0 Dev CD... But I might be wrong...

The r-access gateway (or something) is there, it's the next upgrade available after the i-cpu and i-memory ones
