I was just wondering when Onlink was going to be available for Macintosh as I only use macs in my home.

Namely the part about not being able to make it on our own, as it would override Ambrosia's registration system, as we do not have code from that.

I think that it should be made for Mac, but only after the Windows version is working to the standard of a full release version.

We can't leave out the Mac Gamers! They do exist, honest! :D

For some reason, I get the feeling that you don't like macs. May I remind you that there is a Worm out there that devastates Windows 2000 AND the fact that Macintoshes are impervious to the following:
  • Hackers
    Viruses
    Worms
    Trojan Horses
    and much more...
Did I mention that they don't crash nearly as often as Wintel machines do? While Apple does cost a lot more than Microsoft (heh, at least until January 2006 when they switch to intel processors...), it is definitely worth the cost.

So Ha! :P :D

Macs are ok. I don't use them, because I don't have a use for them. My PC running on windows does what I want.

Macs are not impervious to hackers, no computer which is connected to the internet is. There are viruses, worms and trojans written for macs.

I'm not arguing with you about it. Most games are written for Windows, not Mac or Linux, mainly because it's what most people use. Large companies want to cater to the people that will make them the most money, so until Mac or Linux become the primary home use OS, most games will be written for Windows.

This is EXACTLY why smaller game companies should support Mac and Linux, because nobody else will.

I am not saying that Mac is an inferior operating system, I'm just saying that it's less used at home than Windows. It's a fact. Same with Linux.

Don't flame me. I'm just saying it as it is.

Apparently, you have not heard of Hacktool.Underhand

Of course, it was the first virus on a mac that I saw in about 7 years...

Like I said, Macs are the most secure system in the world. In fact, I'll bet that whenever a PC is hacked, someone is doing it with a Mac... :P :D

Woo, a mac version! I want some of that.

About that legal issue for mac's shareware version, it could make things easier if you totaly block the patched Uplink program to run/play if you don't have a valid registration code but for that you still need to know stuff from AmbrosiaSW.
(are you already doing that?)

Anyway, on their side, there was a patch project a few years ago (8-bit to 16-bit color patch for beam weapons) that ended up as doing a full game (E.V. Nova) so I hope they are still open to this kind of patching project. It might just boost Uplink's sales.

To do that we need their RegistrationTool, which is the legal issue that needs sorting :)

We're also doubting that we will get the said library, for obvious reasons. Instead, we will need to re-release the code so they may build Onlink themselves.

By the way, Mac OS X is impossible to hack..(for now at least..)
Also, I have yet to see a virus be built for macintosh. So...Ha... :P :D

You make me chuckle.

There is NO system out there, whatever OS that cannot be hacked.

There is always a vunerability. Just because people don't research into hacking Macs, it doesn't mean that they can't be hacked. If Mac was the primary OS out there, it'd be hacked into and exploited all the time.

I seem to remember someone saying "Ignorance is not innocence." The same sort of thing applies here. Just because it's not been done, doesn't mean it can't be done.

The reason you don't often see viruses for Macs is because people don't often research into Mac security. Why bother? 99.9% of people that are considered worth hacking by an attacker either run Windows or a distro of Linux.

Don't talk about things you don't understand. OK, Macs exist, equal rights for Macs, etc. Just don't say things about them that aren't true to promote them. You'll thank me in the long run...

You can't say that Macs are the most secure system out there, they're not. It is simply a matter of people not writing viruses, worms, trojans, spyware and other malware for them. Seriously, if someone wanted to they could write a virus for Mac which has the functionality of any virus written for Windows. Any script-kiddie with a book on Mac programming could do it.

Hell, I've been hacking Macs myself since OS 7.1. Because it's such an unknown thing, it's a rather valuble assest if something breaks and you need your files back.

Of course, my definition of "hack" means making it do something it wasn't intended for, rather than destroying thing en masse. It's obsolete as of 10.0.0, but look up Kaleidscope one. It was a GUI hack for 9.2.2 and lower. My mother being internationally known with this for her theme called "Denim Blues."

Of course, hacking OS 9 is different then hacking OSX. It's even easier to do now, because OSX has a Terminal. I can add a snippet to a config file that would grant me automatic access to root by typing "su -"

So please, I've working with every major OS on the planet. Yes, Macs are currently the most secure I have seen. But they are not invulerable.
