perhaps its me, i havent played uplink in a while and its the first time i'm playing onlink personally i find it too hard to start, ive restarted 3 times now and before and i keep finding myself with a shortage of money. i just ran out of time for the first mission of the storey line becous i didnt have any of the PC hacking stuff (like md5 cracker tools) perhaps its that i'm spending too much (i try to buy lvl 5 bypasser stuff from the start atleast for the bank jobs) if i remember correctly i had the +-80k gateway (wich i just bought), with 1 200mhz cpu, 64 ram & i filled up the memmory (12x8 total) since i didnt have enough space for programs to install, so i topped it off right away on my second savegame i even tried to scam some of the mission by accepting the fee in advance knowing i was never going todo the mission (mainly the large database thefts wich i didnt have enough space for (unless i reconnected for almost every file)) i was also wondering if it is possible to steal money from the bank without the log deleter (since thats broken during the last patch) maybe by just changing the both logs as if it seems that i donated money to the account i actually stole from or something or perhaps by creating a temporary account on a bank, transfering the money over there first, then logging in to the temporary account, transfering the money to my account & then deleting the temporary account i hope i didnt make too many spelling errors & that you can understand it :p ifnot feel free to ask questions grtz, Lox |

In my experience, unlike in Uplink, in Onlink you're going to have to actually buy disablers to do the missions which can get you enough money for bypassers. I usually end up buying proxy 3 and b.monitor 1 before I can start investing in bypassers, but it varies by game, and whether or not I want to do the beginning bank trace missions in preparation for bank hacks. It really pays to invest in IP_Probe, that way you can get a bead on what you'll need to buy now, and what you can hold off on and just get a bypasser for. It also pays to learn exactly which security you actually need to defeat to do the mission you need to do. For example, to hack an ISM you only need proxy and b.monitor, as long as you have the menus memorized well enough to get around the encryption security and get to the security menu to disable everything. |

The secret to Onlink really is the bank hacks, so you probably should test to see if the log modifier prevents you from getting caught. If not, then I guess you'll have to wait... |

changing the logs works aswel, one thing i noticed is that there's a mission to trace my unauthorized bank transer, obviously the record is still there, so would that be something i have to look out for? after spending the million i picked up a simple mission to test the new hardware its a simple change in a DNS server, the only problem is i cant get acces to the link the internal service machine of the company has a link to a backup server, wich i'm unable to locate sofar the only links on internic are: - public acces server (with 2 phone numbers, hacked both PC's completely, no results) - 3 acces machines (i think) no acces allowed it seems (although i havent tried routing trough the public acces server, i'll go do that in a minute) - internal service machine, has a backup link so no hacking can be done no lans are found on any of the machines either AFAIK perhaps i'm searching in the wrong direction and a simple hint would be enough rather then just to tell me where to go look it might be a new tool i'm forgetting to use grtz |

The internic admin section has a DNS server, which has links to most other DNS servers. Search the company name in there to find the machine you are looking for. |

It's also important to note, for sanity's sake, that DNS servers (including InterNIC) will do partial matches on the search, so you can just search for the first word (or first part of the first word) if you want. Just keep in mind it'll only give you the first one it finds (which has always been the only for me when using the full first word). |

havent noticed that before, but i did manage to get further ahead with the info i gotwas getting into the gateway system (not the backup link, that was from another mission) and then my mouse died so i stopped at that point :p thx for the help |
