I didn't see any quick question -topic so I'll just post a new topic then. Simple question, "Will this get me caught?" 1) I bounce through two dozens of servers to a bank, InterNIC being the first bounce 2) I start Monitor + B.Monitor bypass 3) Crack the password and log in to the account 4) Check the money status, disconnect 5) Log in to InterNIC and delete the "127.0.0.1 routed to x.x.x.x" and "127.0.0.1 logged in" 6) Disconnect, done. I suck at the VDPIN's with two colors so I couldn't be bothered to log in to the admin section of the bank. So would simply deleting a bouncers logs about routing x to x save me from getting caught? |

It should, yes. Also if you're going to steal the money, make sure you delete the transfer logs and only transfer to your Uplink Bank account. -- Griffinhart |

I thought deleting the "logged in" was bad, as it leaves a "logged out" with no corresponding log... |

Thanks FinalWarrior, and Hawx, I meant the Password Accepted thingy Also as an off-topic quick question, I have some guys PC's IP address, and apparently the login needs a voice verification. Is there a way to get that guys phone number? |

If you're using the latest build, International Telephone Database. Any more questions, feel free to ask here or on the Onlink IRC, I'll help out if I can. ^v^ |

He's (I'm assuming male) talking about the "127.0.0.1: Password verified" log, not the "Connection from 127.0.0.1" log (I think). Deleting the Password verified log is necessary to successfully evading a passive trace and not deleting the Connection from log is necessary as well.-- Griffinhart |

He said he meant the "127.0.0.1 logged in as admin" log. And I got slightly confused with my "logged in" and "connection opened from *", so yeah. |

Completely aside from bank missions, you should always delete the logs from your first bounce. Deleting them from the server you're on is not reliable, and since you always need to delete them from the first bounce you might as well not even bother deleting them from the server you're on. This goes double for deleting the 'log' directory, especially when you're trying to take a server down. Deleting the files in the log directory is the equivalent of using log deleter 1, and *WILL* eventually get traced. Plus, with the massive (yet realistic) amount of entries that Onlink puts in server logs it can literally take you 3-4 minutes to delete that directory. It doesn't do anything for you, so don't bother. As stated previously, in a bank hack transfer the most important thing to do is immediately delete the entries from the bank account transaction log. You only need to break the activity log chain at InterNIC (or whatever your first bounce is). However, any other bank interaction where you're not stealing money and transferring it to your own account does not require you to delete the account transaction logs. (Note: the following paragraph is advice based on personal preference.) Also, do *NOT* directly transfer funds to your Uplink bank account. Create an account at the bank you're hacking, that way you can delete the transaction logs on both accounts without disconnecting (indeed, you must, because if you disconnect and then reconnect for the second account they'll immediately trace you), which is much faster. Then immediately delete the log entry at your first bounce. However, after waiting a few hours to make sure you didn't get caught, you *MUST* transfer everything from that account to your Uplink account and close that account. If you don't do this by the end of the month that bank will get you thrown in jail when they do their monthly audits. Only the Uplink bank won't throw you in jail for failing an audit; at least, as long as you didn't fail for having a negative balance... |

Time, some people have had problems with the audit hitting them anyway. One of my friends hit upon creating a secondary account in Uplink Bank, and transferring from there, then wiping the transfers and closing the account. As UB doesn't audit, the audits never get you at all. |

There does seem to be a bug related to this, based on which version you use, and possibly which month you do the bank hack in. The other problem is that this doesn't always seem to show up unless you quit and reload that game.Just a couple of nights ago I used this very method to transfer money from three accounts during the first month of the game, totaling about 3 million credits using the latest Onlink alpha. While I didn't get sent to jail for any of them after the audit, I did have to pay a 500 credit fine on two of the three accounts for being "overdrawn", which was due by the third of the month, although how I could be overdrawn on a closed account is probably another bug. I imagine I would have been fined for all three if I hadn't had my wireless router confiscated for being retarded on the first bank hack. |

This is NOT a bug, it's the auditions - hacking the banks the old Uplinkish way wont work with onlink my friend - there is more stuff to consider now.
