Post subject:  Hardware upgrades

Hi all, and kudos to onlink developers.. I'm posting this because I'm little pissed off by the way the upgrade process of hardware components currently works.
To better explain myself, when you buy a component there is no way to tell the system WHERE it must be installed or WHICH existing component must be replaced.

Eg: the last time I decided to overclock my cpu I found the Frozen Hell installed on the old crappy cpu and not on the new Async Hyper 500Mhz just bought :/

I do know that if I had planned better, upgrading cpu and other components first and then the gateway this problem would not be occurred, but a better way to manage the hardware could be useful in many other ways, think for example when there's no slot available for the component you want to buy.

Maybe there's already a way to do this and I'm too old and retarded to find how, but if not, plz implement it.. thanks

I agree that it's pretty annoying that it goes by 1,2,3 ect.

First empty slot, second empty slot, so on.

Unless it's a cooler in which case it's first available CPU and so on.

It's quite clear for me, now, the way it works.
I'm only asking for an improvement as it would be useful to be able to choose where to place a new cooler (eg. when having different cpus) or to get rid of a component (eg. the old cpu after a gateway upgrade)

Or swap components between gateway and aux :)

never tried to do so, but I wonder if you can choose the slot in which to place the swapped component.
however, this solution does not allow to get rid of an undesired component.

I mean i'd like to see the option. Got a Fileserver primary with 2x async 500 and 1x hyper 500 and i'd like to shift them to the aux to use it's ubar cpu power and can't :/

Once a purchase is made, it's basically permanent. What, you think Uplink lets you refund? :p

They will later. If it's a defective part.

Your hardware will also degrade over time.

Bwahahaha. Etc.

Not necessarily. I had two CPUs with processor immersion, and I was switching to Frozen Hell, so I bought two Frozen Hell thinking it would automatically replace the processor immersion, being as I only had 2/8 processor banks filled. Nope. Two CPUS with processor immersion, and two empty CPU slots with Frozen Hell.

I mean, I bought two more processors and they fit in place right under the Frozen Hells, so it's not like it's a huge issue, but still, it's kind of silly that they'd fit cooling solutions to empty CPU slots. It's like something a very pissed off computer sales clerk would do to be asinine to a customer who was being a pain in the ass.

Your new missions better pay well. Hard enough scraping together 300k for an Asnyc CPU as it is at only 20k a mission.

Missions for money? I only do missions for status advancements, I do bankhacks for money. :D

(Except when, y'know, banks upgrade their ecurity too damn fast for me to be able to do a darn thing about it.)

I think you missed the point here (or maybe you are joking :D ), no one wants a refund for an unwanted component, but only to discard it in order to avoid misplacements of new components.
also, to be able to choose the slot in where to place a component just bought would be really handy.

I was joking; see Miah's reply. ;)

But, on-topic, I never really run into this problem, mostly because I plan my purchases well ahead of time. Probably because I've played Up/Onlink so much I already know what I want to buy, actually...
