So, I just got disavowed for a bankhack.

    Here's what happened:

    1. I got a "trace balance transfer" mission.
    2. I hack the account that made the transfer. Lo and behold, it has 400k credits in it, plus transferred another 400k to someone else! Sweet moolah! I write down the bank IP and account number of the second person so I can get more cash and complete the mission.
    3. I proceed to take all the credits out of the account I'm currently in, delete the transfer log, connect to InterNIC to delete the connection log, and then go to Uplink's bank to wipe the other transfer log. I fast-forward about five minutes of in-game time to make sure all is good.
    4. I hack the account with the rest of the money, send the name off to the mission people to get that finished.
    5. I proceed to rip this account of its money, delete the transfer log, connect to InterNIC to delete the connection log, and then go to Uplink's bank to wipe the other transfer- wait, what? Denied by Proxy server? But I have Proxy_Bypass v5! And I just did this whole rigamarole not more than 5 in-game minutes ago! (Well, more like seven, but that's besides the point.)

    ...

    It's v6? What the Christ?!

    6. I haul ass to the UISS to get a new version of Proxy_Bypass.
    7. The highest version of Proxy_Bypass on sale at the UISS is v5.
    8. Back to the UIB! Maybe I can still kill the Proxy!
    9. Proxy_Killer Proxy_Killer Proxy_Killer Proxy_Killer Proxy_Killer, c'mon, Proxy_Killer...

2/3rds of the way to killing the Proxy, I get disavowed. :(

Yea, I have noticed that too, the first mission I got after completing all of the available delete/copy a file missions were to edit DNS records, the server had level 9 proxy and level 2 firewall.

I had the same experience. Kinda. My first DNS hack mission had proxy and firewall lvl 4... Way too much money for an early mission, and I failed it 'cause I took the money in advance. And then I did a trace a balance transfer and when I went to delete my logs from the bank, they upgraded their security, so I went to the ISM and I got the new bypasser (they had it fortunately), and I go back to the bank to find that they upgraded another system. So I go get that one, and go back to the bank. I don't remember if it happened a 3rd time, but I eventually got in and cleared my log without losing.

It would be nice if you could subscribe to security updates so that kinda thing doesn't happen...

It's not really crazy-fast, the timing was just bad. You know, the new security system just has to pop out of nowhere at some point. With the lightning-fast processors and blahblahblah it's installation should be next to instant, no?

But believe be, I know what you mean. This has happened to me numerous times as well. As such, I've learned to keep a backup profile.

Did I mention it was the 26th of March? Yeah, two (in-game) days into the game. :p

Since the Killers don't take forever to complete in this version, I pretty much use them all the time. Never had a problem as long as you have them ready.

I never really use killers because of the time it takes, unless of course it's now based on CPU rather than time...

I've only encountered the upgrades on Uplink's Internal Machine and that's really it. No issues even when the storyline came around and I defeated Revelation for the 100th time (which I get to do again because of the save file changes....but that's my own fault). Usually the latest version was available from the store and I was on my way. :)

Oh, and I LOVE the administration screen...finally gives a use to those Aux gateways.

And better still, finally gives the ability to have a good sized file server machine without compromising on CPU power.

You can also use the "supercomputer" Aux and run off its CPU power....all while you use your basic gateway (of course, you may want one with one security slot for the router).

Use the File Server for your personal gateway to store all your stuff and yeah use the super machine as the aux cpu power. There's also an option for 'staging' aux but i'm not sure what that does yet.

I'm pretty sure that's related to the C++ dev console stuff that'll be out... Soon™. There're some old threads/posts floating around here with videos of Miah showing that stuff off. :D

I dunno, because if you check the HUD there's an option for both staging and development.

This really needs a resolution soon. I started a new profile and I got to bank hacking. I got level 5 proxy, monitor, and B.monitor, and started doing the "find financial details" missions. I found an account with a million in it, so i stole it and covered my tracks just fine. Next mission I do is a trace a balance transfer, so I expect everything to go smoothly, but no. Uplink upgraded their proxy to the uncrackable level 6. I go to get the killer and run it, but I'm caught before it even finishes.

Now, I suppose this could be fixed with the ip_probe to check for upgrades, but then I'd have to wait for a bypasser which means I failed the mission since I asked for payment in advance... but seriously that's ridiculous. Not even 2 minutes passed and the proxy goes up to an uncrackable level.

I'm thinking it's because UIB (and possibly all banks?) is coded to auto-upgrade after it's been hacked the first time. But that's pure speculation on my part, as I haven't actually looked at Onlink's code any.
