I carry Onlink with me on a flash drive so I can play when I'm bored, is it possible to move the default save location for save files?

I don't know of any, but I'd just backup the savefile by copying it to your flash drive.

The problem is that the save files go to %appdata%

You wouldn't want to back up your save files anyway. The format is changing completely for 0.2.0-a8.

I'm talking about having the save files save to the onlink folder and load from the onlink folder, this way I can play onlink on any computer.

I know. We stopped saving directly to the Onlink folder because Vista and Windows 7 hate it.

Aww, so I have to keep moving my save files every time?

Hey, I have this little problem with saves... they don't work.
And that's because of my M$ Folder structure breakage on XP.
I have put the "my docs" folder as a 200 GB partition.
This causes the game to not save, even though it supposedly "saves" inside my RAM.
I have tried to move my %appdata% to various places, didn't help.
Anything I can do about it without installing vista/ win7 or breaking my very sophisticated folder trees?

What exactly happens? Are you running Onlink as a limited user? Or do you have some crazy permissions set up on "Application Data\Onlink"?

Hah, no. That'd be too easy to figure out.
I'm the admin, and my %appdata% path is this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Random\Dane aplikacji (running polish windows).
I have no Onlink folder in my %appdata%, so I'm guessing the game either can't find it, OR it just doesn't write on the HDD.
Another thing is, I made my "My Docs" folder be an entirely other partition. Does this affect Onlink in any way?

BTW I run onlink from another partition.

There's a space in your folder name? Wouldn't that affect things?

I don't think so. It's named "Application Data" in the english windows version.

The space wouldn't do it, and neither would moving My Documents. I'm not certain why it isn't saving right. Can you try running Onlink in windowed mode, running Process Monitor and figuring out what it does when it tries to create the %AppData%\Onlink folder (when Onlink starts) or when it tries to save to that folder?

It's ok now, I moved my appdata folder to the partition with the game, and it runs fine (although saves and loads sloooowly, because of XP).
Anyway, thanks guys.

Post subject:  Running Onlink from USB Drive

I would like to run Onlink from my USB. The problem I am having is that Onlink saves to the %appdata% folder of whatever computer it is running on. So when I put Onlink on my USB and go from computer A to B, I must either start a new game or copy the save files to %appdata% every time I want to play. This is an issue for me because if I don't have access to the %appdata% folder I can't enjoy Onlink during my spare time. How hard would it be to change the Onlink save directory to a relative path inside the Onlink folder on my USB? Any ideas?
