I see this forum still gets some activity - I'll post here because I'm not sure where else to go for help, and I think it may be bug related to Onlink, but maybe not...

I picked up this game again after beating the original uplink years ago.

After playing through with Onlink, I'm finding that I can't start the Arc mission. I've received the e-mail from the guy who's deceased, but when I tried logging into the Arc Mainframe it started tracing me, per normal, but I have to wipe my tracks to get around being arrested... Also, I tried logging into the mainframe as admin to see if that got me anywhere but now everytime I connect to the mainframe it immediately starts tracing me because I have all the access locks cracked --> The problem HERE is that when I click on Proceed it says "Host not Responding" and I can't get anywhere.


Is my game screwed up now, as I'm not receiving any further instructions from Arc, or am I missing something?

You need to try to auth as the dead guy first. And to do that, you need to crash the system that's causing the host to not respond (the default gateway system).

Aha got it. Thanks - Now.. How to trigger those Arc missions..

Hmm.. So I got passed the gateway and into the Arc Mainframe, and tried using the guy's password with still no success.

Maybe I'm just dumb and have relied too much on walkthroughs.. It doesn't seem to be starting. There's no secret files on the machine I can access. I've tried crashing the system too with no luck.

I don't know what more to do. I'll try later though, but any suggestions or hints would be awesome..

(I hate asking for this stuff - not 20 minutes ago I was reading people complaining about VSEC -- I sort of agree though - it's tough, and I like that everything you SHOULD need is within the game.

Either way - if I'm missing something, I'm sort of in Uplink mode, not Onlink.. I can put one and one together, but one and one seem to be making 3, and I don't know where to look for the third..

You need to do this in a certain length of time, or the story will play itself without you.

ARM, or ARC? I did all that.. Then when I go to the Arc Mainframe I can get in, and still nothing from the deceased hackers login, though I can access the machine now by cracking the password... It's just a file server and a console though.. nothing special...

He means ARC.

And if you did try to enter the ARC Mainframe with the dead guy's name and password, and if you're not too late, you'll get an email from ARC in a few (in-game) days or so. You're not supposed to be able to actually access the ARC Mainframe with the dead guy's user/pass, you're just supposed to attempt it.
