OK seriously... this has to be either a major bug or... some weird.., I can't explain it ANYWAY... I don't know if it's an uplink bug that the onlink team haven't fixed (or don't even know it exists) but here goes the explanation... So I made a new user after my old user got caught for understandable reasons. I decide for no exact reason that I wanna put my money into another account instead of the uplink one... so I open up another account at another bank... so since all of the "good" missions that are simple to do and pay well usually only show up a lot at the beginning I stayed in the mission page accepting missions for the next.... in game month or two... and I had a huge list of jobs... when... "YOU GUESSED IT! - 'URHASBEENCAUGHTKTHXBAI!'" I didn't DO anything... I made a new account and went straight to the missions page... I hadn't even been on another server... besides the other bank... now is this a script problem with the bank thinking I was doing something illegal by making a new account?... the uplink fee charging both of my accounts, and overdrawing me in my other account... WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT!?

You were arrested for imbalancing the economy by taking and then leaving so many jobs unfinished. We're in a recession, you know!

Were you fined for overdrawing? And did you pay those fines? I think if you leave fines unpaid they eventually catch up to you. But then again, I never have more than 10 jobs in my list, so...

Ok, do you mean it isn't a bug? (I didn't check my e-mails so I don't know if it was from overdrawal (Speeling?) -_-) and if you mean it isn't a bug... why would you get overdrawn for having an empty account that you have no expenses on? or is uplink supposed to charge every account?.... or do you incur expenses from new accounts... or some weird.... GAH this "bug" or "feature" is beyond me so I won't delve... the point I'm trying to make is someone needs to fix the banks so they don't think you are doing something illegal by transfering money from one account to the other... of your own money... and from and to accounts you own... like for instance on uplink (1.55, not sure if it's been fixed by onlink) I transfered all my money from one account to another and then back because I changed my mind and 1 in-game hour later I got an e-mail saying my old account was overdrawn and that I had to pay a $500 fine to said account...

Ok, so here's the problem.

You have more than one account. When you open your Financial tab, the one that's highlighted is your "active" account. When you go shopping (or when money is deducted from your account for whatever reason), Uplink deducts it from your active account.

The problem is that Uplink determines whether or not you can afford something based on the total amount in all your accounts, regardless of where the money actually is. So if you have one account with all your cash, and a second account that is empty but active, Uplink will think you can afford something, and withdraws the money from the active account instead of the full account. You get fined for overdrawing because of this.

It sucks, but I don't think there's a way around it. The only thing I can recommend is to keep all your money in one account, and make sure it's active at all times.

If you do get fined, you'll have to transfer money into the account you overdrew from, and then make a deposit from that account to the account they email you. That's the only way to deal with the fine.

Also, if you have an inexplicably large amount of money at any bank that isn't Uplink International, you will, for whatever reason, get caught for being a bad person. According to Miah, all banks that aren't Uplink International do monthly (or something) audits of all bank accounts. So if you've got an account at one of those banks, and this account has, let's say, 1 million credits, and there are no logs whatsoever about how you acquired this 1 million credits, the account will be emptied.

That's never happened to me, but then again, no amount of money that large remains in any account for long ;)

You could always make a second account in the Uplink bank...that seems to work for me.

So I guess the moral of the hack here is - keep all your eggs in one basket.

Before aux gateways, I got into the habit of backing up my software on other companies fileservers. Because once they're used in a mission, the access details aren't revoked, there's no tracing, and the contents never change.

Beats paying for a backup server ;)

So if you have a tonne of money in Uplink International and there's no logs, you'll be screwed for that too?

It's been a while since I played, but I seem to remember breaking a bank, transferring money an account on that bank, deleting logs on both, sending money from that account to Uplink account and deleting logs on both. Never been caught for it, unless i'm not remembering how I did it.

No, I was saying that if you have an empty bank balance and the log say you should have a quarter million...
