That's the problem with many people these days- they ask for something to challenge them, and when it's given to them, they expect to be spoonfed the solution. |

I suppose it's an ends justify the means sort of reasoning; Maybe some people feel better about being able to say they beat a game or a puzzle than to really have done it. Or perhaps it's the opposite; maybe some people just don't want the frustration of encountering an obstacle they can't easily overcome. Code: Satisfaction from problem solving < skipping frustrating obstacle
Although, now that I think about it more, I do find it somewhat justifiable for someone to want to skip through trivial complexities to get at the storyline content or easter eggs. I've used Walkthroughs in the past for RPGs where I wanted to play the game only once, yet view/read every minigame/sidequest, etc. It deprived me of the exploratory/discovery aspect, but there is something to be said for ensuring you are able to view the entire content of a game when you're constrained by available playtime. Perhaps the "spoonfeed me" players of Onlink and other games have the same reasoning and really aren't capable of -- or perhaps just not interested in -- gaining satisfaction from solving mini-games or puzzles through their own efforts. There's never any obligation for any player to spoonfeed any other player, but as Miah mentioned, the same information (read: Solutions to VSEC) can be freely posted in the Wiki. Properly structured "help" posted in the wiki could end up with providing the same requested solutions without enabling and feeding attitudes of entitlement. Regarding Attitudes of entitlement, See: Real-Life vs. the Internet. Quote: Guy 1: Does anyone have the new Creed CD?
----: Edited to clarify limit of Miah's statement re: posting solutions.
Guy 2: I do. Guy 1: Give it to me right now! Guy 2: Give it to you? Why would I do that? Guy 1: You're not giving it to me. Give it to me faster! ... I don't want it to be illegal, therefore it isn't. That's how it works. |

Or the other reason people need help is because they suck at solving things like the puzzles in Onlink, no matter how hard they try. See; Myself. |

Well, yes, there are those people too. I was just saying how I don't like it when someone looks at a puzzle and automatically decides "ITS TOO HARD." |

Bwaaargh. VSEC. I had my first encounter with it today and it is driving me bonkers. That said... just asking for an answer or a solution seems kind of stupid, and as these have static sets... someone will eventually figure 'em out and list them. Personally, however, I hate VDPIN and VSEC. It's an awesome idea for it, and I'm all for making the hacking more involving and interactive (PC Tools and LANs are great examples of extending the awesomeness... much cooler than randomly connecting to stuff...-- yes, I know LANs were part of the original game...) however VSEC? I'm not fully sure it's a step in the right direction if it frustrates the hell out of everyone. Making something difficult is one thing-- VDPIN is difficult for someone like me, assuming I don't cheat. VSEC? It's muuuuurder. Anyways, that's just my two cents. Past that this is freaking rock awesome. |

Guys. Guys, seriously (also ladies if there are any on here). If you need help that much, check the wiki. Or use Google. (Trust me, I found a solver for VSEC in under five minutes.) (Just don't post links to any solvers.) Any problem can be overcome given a sufficient expenditure of time and energy. -- Griffinhart |
