| Post subject: | Seemingly impossible LAN |
Hi guys, no idea if the forum is dead or not but i figure i would give it a shot. Im on a misison to delete some files which can be found on a LAN. No problem, i hacked several LANs... or so i thought. http://i25.tinypic.com/29erfhl.png This seems impossible? I probed every known part of the LAN and no direct route to the "floating" elements. The far left machine open a lock on something i havnt found yet which floats somewhere in the middle. Any ideas? In the original uplink you could often solve the mission by deleting them elsewhere. I tried the internal services (deleted all files, crashed the system). No update. Just finished trying their mainframe, had to give up on the gateway which required the VSEC VDPIN axx. Couldnt get it solved in less enough tries (VSEC is really hard...) i have my doubts that a grade 10 agent should be cracking mainframes anyway. Hope someone can help |

Search Terminal that after hit connect button to it and login to it has phone number display in it. Dail the phone number(use iplookup software to get on map) to get to the server. |

search terminal? maybe you can describe it a bit more in steps and find any modem link.however the main server is the first link after the modem. So when i connect to the server and use the voice print the admin logs on and only has one jump to force me off. I managed to get as far as the console once. Its kinda hard to make a longer route when there isnt that many parts of this part of the LAN |

And that's basically why I hate LANs that use modems. -- Griffinhart |

heh, maybe theres a new feature in this problem.-- Griffinhart LAN decoy. Basicly an app you put in a different end of LAN than your in to lure the admin that way instead. Could work as a timed force lock or similiar. You force a lock on a different part of the LAN and the admin goes to investigate giving you a little more time to do your data liberation. |

Thing is, you never trigger the admin until you try to hack the mainframe, so why would s/he/it even bother going for the decoys when s/he/it knows exactly where you'll be anyhow? Unless I'm totally wrong and the admin doesn't actually know where you are, despite you having triggered the admin in the first place. -- Griffinhart |

Well thats true, it would work that way realisticly. However i think its kinda stupid that some missions are unbeatable regardless of your tactics and equipment. I dont mind taking 2 or even 3 trips to finish a mission but anything over that makes the experience tidious. Dropping those 6 bypasses in at every hack isnt exactly my kind of fun Unless I'm totally wrong and the admin doesn't actually know where you are, despite you having triggered the admin in the first place. -- Griffinhart Maybe a tool to make you slightly less likely to be found. Or some way to logon stealthy (or atlleast have a chance for it) and not earn the attention of the admin. oh well |

Was working on a spike tool before. Forces the connection to stay open until the spike terminates. Guess what I plan to do with it. |

| Post subject: | LAN cheats -- gives you forever while being traced by ADMIN |
Very, Very Easy. Log into main system/force something, then go back into lan view. Hit the BACK button (NOT CONNECT) and close lan viewer. Admin thinks your one step back and will go there and change to "logged on" (sometimes jumps back to entry point) leaving you with forever on the main system...or until the trace finished anyway... This is still a bug...just thought i'd share. This works in Uplink too... |

its usually only relevant to get yourself more time when your on one of the silly "modem -> mainframe" LANs. If you use this exploit there you will just get caught instantly Log into main system/force something, then go back into lan view. Hit the BACK button (NOT CONNECT) and close lan viewer. @Jakehp55: Oh my sweet... there already was a topic on LANs and them being nearly impossible. I merged your topic into the existing one. -- Griffinhart |
