The source code for Onlink is not open. If you want to talk about joining the team, contact Miah, Tycho, or Prophile about it. You will have to sign an NDA. This gives me an idea. Put all the game dialog in text files and have the game read from them, sort of how Darwinia does it. |

We used to use language files. This is what our codename "Lanlade" releases were all about. We are going to redevelop the technology for it, but now that we've done it once, the work for it should be easy, and now we can avoid any performance problems with it. |

so, i will can be able to traslate onlink by myself by changing the strings in a file? |

Yeah, if/when this gets done, Onlink will fetch all the strings from a file/multiple files. Most likely there will be a language setting in Options. |

Be aware of potential CPU hog, if using directly text files for all the game text. Maybe a binarized version, with an editor, would be a better choice. It's just an idea |

Darwinia runs fine, I don't see why we'd have problems with a non 3d game. |

I am willing to admit some of the design decisions we made in LanLade were bad ideas. But now that we've done it once, and learned from our mistakes, we shouldn't have any trouble implementing a language system that runs efficiently. |

Will the new LanLade be based off CrissCross, or will it be an extension of Onlink? |

| Post subject: | Re: Looking for source code |
LanLade has nothing to do with CrissCross, save for the data structures we'll probably end up using to store the strings. Maybe we could make such a thing an extension of CrissCross. *shrug* Tycho; thoughts? |

I have some questions: - Does onlink use the same red shirt of uplink? - If yes, when I decrypt the save file, what kind of document will I obtain? - Can I add mods like gateways or skins in onlink? - If yes, how? That's all, sorry for my english |

1. Onlink uses Redshirt 2.- Does onlink use the same red shirt of uplink? - If yes, when I decrypt the save file, what kind of document will I obtain? - Can I add mods like gateways or skins in onlink? - If yes, how? That's all, sorry for my english 2. When decrypted you will get a standard text file. 3. Yes 4. Try http://modlink.net, but that is an outdated site geared towards Uplink, but you may find the guides there slightly helpful. Skins can be produced by editing the graphics in the graphics folder. |

Sounds reasonable. I could integrate the preferences.txt system that ARC++ uses, too.

Have you considered just using gettext for localisations? |

| Post subject: | Re: Looking for source code |
use gettext files or .po files (they should be the same thing...) is a great idea!!! also because they can be traslated with programs like babelfish or other... |
