is it just me or does it seem like i get caught only when spending large amounts of money? through missions, i get bank account numbers. i check statements and try to find accounts with large sums of money. i hack into their accounts, transfer all the money, delete the statements, close their accounts, then delete the statements in my own account and delete logs at internic. i can fast forward the game for a few days and nothing happens, but when i start spending like 1 mil on processors, i get busted very quickly. is this like a feature or am i just hacking the bank the wrong way?

This may sound just plain stupid, but do you really get caught, or does only your motion sensor show someone's near your Gateway (and when it does, do you blow it up)? You know, it shows that whenever your Gateway is being upgraded. Probably you do really get caught, so I'll try to suggest something:

ALWAYS use log deleter v4.0. Otherwise the evil admins might undelete the (statement) logs you have deleted.

Delete only those statements logs which you create when you transfer the money (just to clarify, there's two of them: one at both banks). I'm not sure if it matters, but it for sure won't hurt if you don't touch the ones you haven't created.

Also, delete the statement logs from both banks ASAP. First from the one where you steal the money (preferably immediattely after transfering the money), then from Uplink bank (or wherever you transfer it). THEN delete ALL logs at InterNIC, save the latest "connection established" -log.

Getting caught might also result from closing the account. That is unnecessary, so I don't suggest you do it.

Whatever the case, getting caught when using large amounts of money is definitely NOT a feature, since I haven't been caught even though I have used like +2m just in a few seconds :/

If you're sure you aren't doing anything wrong, try to delete the logs faster. If you use a (proxy) bypasser, it shouldn't be too much trouble, since a (proxy) disabler is fast enough as well.

i actually forgot to use motion sensor, so i don't know what happened there. and i always use log deleter 4.0. do i really have to save the latest "connection established" log? i usually delete everything

The mod has a regularly schedualed bank audit feature. If it says you were disavowed specifically for "defrauding" a bank, that would be what got ya.

They are certainly ways around getting nailed. Have fun finding them.

Yes you do! When you disconnect you'll always leave a disconnected log, and if that's there with no connection established log the tracer will realise this, and you'll be caught.

I try to be very specific when I delete logs, avoiding any that are nothing to do with me. I know you have to be fast when hacking banks but it's not so bad that you don't have time to delete the proper logs. I'd do the same thing with the statements too, only delete the ones you need to.

A common misconception, but simply not true. The game isn't smart enough for that...at least Uplink wasn't, Onlink may be but I doubt it.

If I'm wrong I apoligise, I was going by this post:

    viewtopic.php?f=52&t=1082&hilit

In which Miah clearly says you can be caught for deleting the connection log.

I shall test it myself tonight and post back results, should be easy enough to do.

I've just tried it, it seems that you don't get caught (at least for bank hacking) for deleting the connection established log too. So if you're supposed to as Miah said, then somethings wrong.

Yep, confirmed. I destroyed the Bioware computers central mainframe with only 5 jumps, then deleted ALL logs at internic, so the only remaining one would be that I disconnected. Still NOT caught.

Bah, I could bet I've heard at least a dozen times you aren't supposed to delete the latest "connection established" -log on Uplink forums |:

Well, I dunno really. I can't even remember when I was caught the last time ;\

Yeah everyone says it but I know for a fact in Uplink it isn't true.

Since Miah said it is the case in Onlink though, that's a little strange.
