The password breaker eventually found the password I wanted (e.g. for InterNIC Admin) however I had not time to write it down... Is there a way to find it somewhere, should I break it again ?

Thanks
Clipper (been caught once already... think my agent will die pretty much same day of birth...)

It should save the password that it cracks. Below the password should be a list of passwords you have for that system and you can just click it.
(Might not work for InterNIC though...but InterNIC doesn't trace anyway so it doesn't matter)

Right. I just found that out. although it seems pretty useless because as soon as I complete a mission, I get a message saying my account was revoked on these systems. This is what i do :
- connect to an internal services server through a dozen bounces
- break the password, login with it and disconnect (to gain time)
- reconnect through dozen bounces and login
- mission (e.g. delete a file)
- disconnect
and bang I lose admin (no more square box) on all servers I had it in the bounce list.

What am I doing wrong ?

And is it worth deleting logs on Internic immediately each time ?

(sorry for these noobs questions but ultimate guide nor help respond to this...)

Thanks for the help !

The servers change their passwords on occasion (apparently in 2010 everyone actually is using safe password techniques).
I think you'll keep it longer if you manage to get less traced on it.
Or maybe you have to delete the logs of what you did on that server. Don't know for sure.

And yes. If InterNIC is your first bounce, delete the logs immediately. In early missions it isn't a problem but later on they'll start tracing the logs and catch you (especially if you hack a bank. Those boys trace fast).

The admins knew you logged onto their systems. once they give up tracing you they change their password because they arent retards

On most systems, the passwords will be changed; apparently, log deletion won't help, so if you ever need to re-crack a system, you'll just have to, well, re-crack the system with password breaker.

InterNIC doesn't do that, though. Once you crack the password, you'll have the password for InterNIC for the rest of the game.

One good practice to keep with is to constantly delete logs in the internic. You don't have delete all logs, just where you bounced the internic and the log for password verification. DO NOT DELETE YOUR CURRENT CONNECTION LOG< THIS WILL GET YOU CAUGHT. only delete the log that says admin password accepted. i can't stress that one enough.

In Onlink?

Was this confirmed before? I recall that in Uplink and in previous versions of Onlink, deleting your current connection log had no consequences.

If you are connected to Internic and you are deleting logs, if you delete the log that states:

12:14-connection established with 127.0.0.1

when you log out the log will then read:

12:15- connection closed to 127.0.0.1
12:12- connection established with xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: accessed file xxxxxxx
12:03-connection established with xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: accessed file xxxxxxx

There will be no record of your connection actually having begun, only the you closed the connection. Which to the system is a flag. therefore, you will be caught. So, DON'T DELETE THE INITAIL CONNECTION LOG, only the password accepted log and your bounces.

Logically, yes. But does the game actually play it out like that? Again, in previous versions of both Uplink and Onlink, that was not the case. I mean, I leave that connection log anyhow (just because I'm paranoid/crazy), but I've been wondering if that's been confirmed.

Sounds like something I ought to check... if only it weren't nearly 3AM on a school night (well, morning).

Yes it will catch you for that little mistake.

no, it wont. You wont get caught if you delete all logs, regardless of the disconnect message.

Thank you, krageon.

Plus PowdereDPersuasion, where's your proof? Has it happened to you before?
