I am trying to do a bunch of social security missions. I can get into the server fine, and proxy disable reads 'success' when it has finished.

However, I cannot change anything. Why is this?

maybe it has a firewall

It would not be a firewall, as firewalls prevent file deletion and log modification.

It specifically states that the operation is denied by the proxy.

I have level 5 proxy disabler. Is the social security db really on a server with a level 6/7 proxy?

This is a bug already known and fixed for the next beta version. Use a disabler for now

Bypassers do work. And disablers which is obtained only by the cheat menu work, too. You can't disable any proxy/firewall/sentry/etc. with a disabler which is bought from the Uplink shop.

Well that's damn useful! Is this a bug or a feature?

Bug. New release fixing this pending.

For those that want to know, I accidentally made the security systems a bit too rabid in protecting themselves,
