So, I bought the Uplink Developer CD, quite excited ad hoping it would help my coding more...

The moment I saw the project in Visual C++ I got hit square in the face by the brick called reality. Way too complex.

So, I'm asking you lot, are there any books/guides dedicated to building up a novice programmer's skills all the way up to toying with the Uplink game's code? I'd appreciate any bits of info about this.

    Thanks in advance.

When I first started out, I was the same way. I had no idea codebases could be that huge and complex. All I can recommend is that you brush up on every corner of C/C++ using any resource that helps. Once you've spent a few hours doing that, be prepared to spend even more time reading through the code to get an understanding of how it all works and how it is all put together.

As for resources, the only C++ resource I can recommend is http://learncpp.com. This is basically the only C++ resource I used and it helped a fair bit. Another non-tutorial resource I recommend is http://cplusplus.com/. I continuously find myself returning to that site to read up on various C/C++ functions.
