I'm coding something (which I'm keeping quiet for now) and need some nice background music for it.

Anything like the Uplink music (ambient, chip-tunes, etc). It must be free (in terms of free beer and free speech). In other words: Nothing paid, no copyright (or at least a license to use in non-commercial products or to distribute freely).

I'm looking for some tracks preferably with no singing or voices in. I've got permission from Trash80 to use Chip2Bit, but obviously one background track is a little boring.

Anyone know of a site / music artist that has appropriate music?

You can get a bunch of old Soviet tunes for free here. Way more inspirational than your godless machine music.

Seriously though, archive.org has lots of public domain media of various types, don't know if it has that kind of music but I wouldn't be surprised.

Midi files are almost always free to download and free to use.

You can easely find them on the net.

Er...not really. If a MIDI song is based off of a copyrighted song it's not really legal to use it. Technically.
I mean you won't get in trouble for listening to it, but putting it in your program and distributing it, maybe.

I'm half graphics designer, half music producer :) I can produce some tracks for you if you like if you tell me length and what you want in them and so forth. No cost either, other than credit.
