Post subject:  Windows in a web page

So, I'm working on a project.
Yep.

I've looked at http://cross-browser.com, downloaded their library, and had no idea how to use it. They have a tutorial, but it only covers a couple functions. They basically have horrible support, so I don't want to use them. So, does anyone know how to create movable windows/objects on a web page? I don't know much Javascript. I'm really looking for something in PHP, but I doubt there is something like that. If it has to be javascript then I might be able to cope.

But yeah, any ideas?

The only option you have is Javascript as it's ( as far as i know ) the only language that has direct control over your browser.

What you basically have to do is make a DIV and put it on the top (top meaning that it's on top of other parts of the site ), as soon as someone clicks on it, you check what the current X and Y settings of the mouse within that browser window are, and as soon as the mouse moves you convert the X and Y settings to left right top and bottom settings.

This is a huge pain in the ass, i had a piece of script i used somewhere, it's not mine but i kinda took it without telling anyone :) if you want to i can take a look and find it for you :)

@Dorbian: Yeah, thanks, it sounds like what I need. If it wouldn't be too much trouble can you try and find it for me please? Thanks.

EDIT: Just noticed this, but it seems as though the @ sign looks cooler with this forum theme. :P

Send you a PM with the code, there might be still some ASP code in there but all the parts are in javascript.

just remove the stuff between <% %> which will remove any ASP coding.

This should be everything tho, if you need more then give a shout, I'll be glad to give a hand.

There are some bugs in the system itself, but this is related to Browsers, not to the code.

For some reason when you move a DIV over a <input> field it will show the input field through the DIV...

Other then that, i actually put an extra part in there that you can open and close the boxes again, a bit more desktop like :)

I highly recommend two Javascript libraries - Prototype and script.aculo.us. You will find that doing stuff like what you want is most easy.

I actually have seen script.aculo.us before and I'm thinking of using it. (In fact, until you mentioned it just now I had forgotten about it :P)
