I actually like the Pentium III significantly more than the Pentium 4, and while the Pentium 4 was being released there wasn't any reasonable alternative. The Pentium III is actually a very fast chip, based on a great architecture. Don't be embarrassed about it. Just don't decide later on to "upgrade" to a Pentium 4. If you do upgrade, go for a Core or Core 2.

The only way possible i could upgrade is if i buy a whole new system. The one i'm using now is one of those "barebones" kits you can get that are basically crap. When i have the money to get a new system i plan to hand-build it from scratch this time. My computer as it is randomly decides to shut-off.

Well, here are my benchmarks from last year. One thing to note is that the Core 2 gets green marks across the board (meaning it exceeded the expected performance) and the Athlon 64s and 64 X2s all got red columns (below expectations), except for beating the Northwood, which isn't saying much. They only beat the Northwood by a 1/3rd margin anyway.

My point is, as things stand today, AMD is far behind in processor technology. The Intel Core and Core 2 architectures are vastly superior, and if you do intend to upgrade, go Intel. Avoid anything without 'Core' in the title (also avoid the Pentium D "Dual Core", which is a couple Pentium 4s slapped together).

Actually before I had my Presario I had an old IBM. It had a Pentium II, while my dad's Gateway had a Pentium III. For some reason I was more attracted to PIII than P4, I think I was just attached to the Roman Numerals or something.
